Default MetroPcs mixed feelings

So here is the thing...mother in law wants to move to Texas she has an unlocked BB 8310 someone told her that she can use it on Metro Pcs, now the question is how good the service is? I mean I always hear people complaining about reception but I also hear people saying that it does have good reception and its really cheap...so what do u guys think? I am in Dallas and right here people get good reception but they say that as soon as they go into another city or county the reception or signal gets lost...is this true?

well i guess it depends on where in texas, the coverage map is at ---> metropcs.com/coverage/. that’s the BIG myth, you don’t just lose coverage when you go outside a Metro PCS area, you go into roaming which in most cases is about 19 cents a minute. You still get free texting in most areas in the country even if you’re roaming on your phone. I have the $50 smart phone plan plus the insurance on my phone which is like $4 and my “TOTAL” bill is $64.70 that includes all taxes and fees, that is for unlimited everything. And if I were with AT&T or Verizon, the same plan would cost me around $150 per month BEFORE TAXES! lol So to get my bill close to that I would have to be roaming about 567 minutes a month that’s like 10 hours a month of roaming. And if you went over by 567 minutes you would be looking at a whopping $255 with Verizon or AT&T thats like a $350 phone bill, but that also depends on how many minutes you pay for, the more you spend the less it is for extra minutes. God I love not having to keep track of how much I talk any more !

I guess I believed the myth, its just confusing when people would tell me that they can never use their phones or that. I pay close to $150-$160 for three lines and a data plan on ATT but I do not want to add anyone else I am afraid that I will be charged more than $200.00. I am happy now because I have the rollover minutes but u r SOOOOO right having to keep track of your minutes its really frustraiting, you will never have the memory to count minutes and seconds...I guess I will tell her to join MetroPcs besides someone told me that calls to her country(Japan) are really cheap big plus there!.

All carriers have “dead-spots” I don’t care if you have a satellite phone there is always somewhere it won’t work. I am about to add the unlimited international calls on my plan and the price for that is a HUGE $5 per month lol. Just keep in mind that other countries have weird charges for cell phone usage, so I am guessing you can’t call most out of country cell phones with the metro plan, just landlines. But they do have a place on their webpage you can type the number in before you call to see if it’s covered under Metros unlimited international calling. And if you don’t like metro, they have no contract so just move on to another carrier. But I will tell you from what I’ve seen Metros customer service SUCKS! But I’m willing to put up with it for what I’m paying.

An Unlocked 8310(GSM) will NOT work on MetroPCS. She needs an 8330(CDMA) to be able to be used on MetroPCS and it would still have to be flashed for it to be usable on their network.

Accctually. You can't flash a (even an 8330) BlackBerry to work on MetroPCS. There is no way to load the ESN/MEID onto the network (other then through MetroFlash, which isn't compatible with the BlackBerry, 99% of Palms, or Nokias). All you can do is alter the MEID/ESN to that of a metro phone, but then none of the Blackberry Services work (unless the original MEID/ESN was a BlackBerry as well) as you can't get the Blackberry plan on it.

Sorry
