Default Fido offering BIS

So I've been running an unlocked T-Mobile 8320 Curve on a Fido smartphone data plan, using Opera mini. When I "inherited" the phone I still had a year left on contract, and the per second billing/no system access fee was good, so this was okay with me. Then a few days ago a friend of mine on Fido got an unlocked Bold. I asked him if he was okay getting such a loaded phone without Blackberry Service, but he told me he got BIS from Fido with no problem.

So I give Fido a call yesterday and tell them my situation. I'm on a regular data plan and I have an unlocked Curve from T-Mobile. The rep says that I should be on a Blackberry Data Plan (duh) and asks ME if I want to be switched over. Of course! I restart my phone and viola! My phone has been automatically configured with full BB services and everything! I was also directed to register my PIN and IMEI online with Fido, which was successful. You may want to call to make sure before you do anything drastic, but it appears Fido is again offering BIS to unlocked BBs.

Yup, it was no problem for me setting up a unlocked rogers 8310. the rep did mention that FIDO wouldn't provide support since it is not a fido phone. I was up and running in about 10 min. with the email and all.

The only problem I am having is that when I get a call, the name/number always comes up as UNKNOWN even if I have them in the BB address book. Anyone got ideas why this may be so. I didn't subscribe to the caller id name display add-on, as I thought atleast the address book names/numbers would show when I get a call. This is totally frustrating me. I know it's a fido thing as I switch sims to a rogers and it picks up the name/number no problem

The way you can fix the "unknown" caller issue is by calling your carrier and having them disable the "name display" feature from your caller ID package. This will show the number of the incoming call instead of "Unknown Call".

Cheers,

Lucky
