Has anyone used Nokia phones with the Symbian OS before? What are your thoughts? I was thinking of getting and playing around with a Pure view 808 or something else similar.

    Formal Symbian user here

The 808 is still a good buy.
You can install a custom rom called "delight", which adds extra features, and it is still being updated.

Nokia Here offline maps have also been recently updated too.

Since the Symbian app store is no longer around. You can find most formally paid Symbian apps for free online.

Buy of course, you should probably know that the app situation is really bad for Symbian.

I have an N8 I keep around for various tasks (pics, vids, voice recording, etc.). I was a huge Symbian fan. Gravity is a great little social media app. Podcasts is a good podcast client as well. I second the Here Maps use as well. I'd say go for it.

I was also sort of a Symbian fan and the last phone I've used was the Nokia E7. The 808 is still quite powerful in regards of the camera, some state it is better than the Lumia 1020, especially in terms of speed. Yet you need to understand that Symbian is no longer officially supported, the app store has been taken offline and the functions might lack in some areas compared to more recent OS versions.

Symbian is always my fav OS next to BlackBerry. But they also faced the same issues as BlackBerry nw. App gap. And since they are dead now, dont expect it to change ever. But all the nokia phones in high range is simply kool to own

Former Symbian user, developer and modder (Google Allstar12345 Symbian)
    Also a 808 PureView, N8 and 5530 owner,
If you're interested in photography, then the 808 is for you, but forget Apps, because Symbian development is dead, I still maintain some of my Symbian Apps but there isn't much else new.

I'd be happy to answer any Symbian related questions you have by the way
