I need some help with my Pre, please!
Can someone please help me? I just got my Palm Pre and love it. I'm getting to know my new device, but here are a few things I need help with:
1) Can someone please tell me how to get yahoo IM on the Pre? I can't seem to find it, and I really LOVE yahoo IM.
2) Can someone tell me how to get ringtones from Crackberry on my Pre? I sent me a couple, but all they do is play "streaming". The ringtones that I transferred over from my sd card got moved over, but I'm wondering if I can somehow save it to my computer and use explorer to transfer files?
3) Can someone please tell me how to transfer my contact information from my Microsoft Outlook to sync up with my Pre? I have that email set up, but when I had my Blackberry Curve, it kept my pictures on there. I would love to be able to save the pictures I already had.
Finally,
4) Can someone please tell me how I can sync up my Outlook Calendar to my Pre? I happen to use a Roadrunner address, and it's a POP3 mail account, but I can't seem to get it right. I really don't use yahoo or google for my calendar, and use the heck out of my Outlook one, so that's the one I want to use.
Thanks for reading, and if you can help me out, you would be a life saver! (just kidding, but everyone here seems to be really great with their help here!)
Best wishes,

Honestly, what the **** is this supposed to mean? This is the Palm Pre/WebOS forum. This isn't a blackberry forum. The lack of reading comprehension astounds me on this site. People post things in the iPhone forum, and then people say this is a blackberry site. Well, take a look around, there are sub forums for more than blackberry. jeez.

The Pre won't have Yahoo messenger integration until the Pixie launches or sometime close to it. It was shown in the Pixie preview video. Some users are reporting Yahoo IM showing up on their phones already, but its not out for the masses yet.
Plug the Pre into your comupter via uSB select USB mode. The Pre shows up as a USB drive and you can drag and drop the files into your ringtone folder.2) Can someone tell me how to get ringtones from Crackberry on my Pre? Pocketmirror will sync your Pre with Outlook, but I'm not sure the photos will come over with your pics. Its in the app catalog with a free trial and you also need the desktop component. It works over wifi. I took a different route and used the import function for contacts in my gmail after I exported my contacts to a csv file. I'm not sure any of these methods keep your photos intact. The good thing about the Pre (once you have photos with your contacts) is that it syncs all the contact info you create on your phone with your gmail account, including photos. So once you add contacts on your pre, or edit existing contacts, everything is backed up and will resync with your phone in the future if you do something like get a new device or wipe your phone for some reason.3) Can someone please tell me how to transfer my contact information from my Microsoft Outlook to sync up with my Pre? Again, Pocketmirror. Unless you plan on buying it for use after the trial, or another desktop sync option comes along, it won't do you any good long term. The Pre is meant to be a cloud centric device not a desktop syncing one. Even though you don't use google calender, the Pre syncs with it seamlessly. The easiest thing to do, if you don't want to buy Pocketmirror would be to sync outlook with Google then Google syncs with your phone in the background. Personally I've moved to Google Calender as my central calendar because I can synce it with both my work and phone calendars with ease so that any events I have are shared effortlessly across all my calenders. Gmail has also become my primary personal email account. Embrace the cloud mslincoln. Finally,

I gave her a website that is dedicated to Pre's, I didn't give her a rude answer, How did you contribute to this forum in anyway? At least I tried leading in the right direction instead of wasting time waiting for an answer. Plus I wouldn't go into verizon and ask them to service my At&t phone. So relax.

" When your determination changes, everything else begins to move in the direction you desire. The moment you resolve to be victorious, every nerve and fiber in your being immediately orient themselves towards your success." Nothing is impossible in this world. We need to understand that we are the one who can actually change our destiny.

b_baller00: I did try the Palm website to no avail. They don't give as much info as Crackberry does. I switched from my Curve last month, and like my Palm, but I may end up giving this one to my daughter in a year and going back to a new Blackberry. For now, it's good, but you know us BB users!!!
Thanks for the help, and I didn't consider it rude. - 11-13-2009, 08:34 PM #9
This takes a little bit of doing, but it works.
-Need Outlook 2003 or later.
-Both the Pre and the PC have to be on the same wifi network (this doesn't work over USB cable)
-Install Chapura Sync Manager to the PC (PocketMirror Download)
-Install PocketMirror to the Pre (Get from the App Store)
-Create your chapura account on the desktop component
-Enter the same information in PocketMirror on the Pre
Now it should be able to sync the contacts. This also should work just fine for the Calendar.Last edited by papped; 11-13-2009 at 09:01 PM.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. All of them worked, however as soon as I downloaded the latest OS upgrade, serious and sometimes humorous errors occured. One happened when 2 different people texted me, and when I went back to the text summary page, their texts would disappear. The only way to retrieve the history of their texts was to start a new one to them. At first it was funny until I would get a text alert, and when not picked up immediately, it again disappeared. Other problem occured when trying to power down the phone for the night. After hitting the stupid "buttons" properly 3 times (3 different "do you REALLY want to shut it off???" type options), it would wake me up in the middle of the night with new texts or emails.
So, after giving this Palm Pre about 6 weeks of my life, I determined that it was a complete waste of my time to go with a phone that still has so many bugs to work out. Guess what.....I'm back to my Blackberry Curve. For now, I'll stick with the company that makes the best phones, has the best reputation, following, etc.
Thanks again, guys! (I made the switch back this afternoon!) - 12-03-2009, 12:48 AM #13
That's weird, I'm running 1.3.1 with none of those issues.
