How to Put the Pre into Roaming

So my friend has a Pre with Sprint, and his biggest complaint is he cant figure out how to put the phone into Roaming. In his apartment the signal with Sprint is terrible, but on his old phone he was able to change his phone from using the sprint network to roaming so he could make calls with out always standing on his porch. Now with the Pre we can not find the option to change the type of signal it uses so he is back to standing on the porch to make calls and/or sending and receiving delayed text messages.

Does anyone know if there is an option in the Pre to your signal type? Thanks

Don't think there is without rooting and patching the OS. Why has your friend not contacted Sprint and asked for an Airave. They've been giving them out for free and no monthly charge.
