PAC from Orange

Called Orange to get a PAC code so that I can migrate my number to a new Iphone, but was told that I would have to cancel my pay monthly contract by paying £240 in order to get it. Is there any other way to get a PAC code?
Also, is it possible to migrate numbers about 8 months after I Start contract with new provider?

I'm afraid there's no way round it as Orange need to release the number - normally you have to pay off the remainder of your contract, ie. if you want to cancel 12 months into a 24 month contract you would need to pay the remaining 12 months.

As to whether you can migrate a number a 8 months into a contract you would need to talk to your new provider to see if they can do that.
