Default Orange UK- UMA Services for OS7 devices

Shock horror!!!!

Just called OCS to check on when these might be available for my Bold 9900,
the gentleman on the other end of the line was a bit shocked to find that their system is quoting not available till Feb 2012!!!

Thats a big time difference since the devices are on the market now. Almost as bad as the NFC Barclaycard payment services, which the Orange shop display unit quotes as being available already..oops

If you download the beta from the beta forum and input orange settings yourself uma works fine on 9900.

on ver 190 I found the settings already in the build (as i dont have orange branded 9900) but in version 205 I had to input them myself, no biggy they still work fine.

The story is, UMA has always worked. Just OS 7 didn't.

7.1 works with it an absolute treat

Does UMA work automatically on installing 7.1 (I think T mobile have it) or do you have to change the engineering screen?

I spoke to Orange blackberry tech support and they stated that "may be at the end of Feb 2012" and said that it may be later then that.

Oh yes, orange cs seem to have a standard line with that. When I got the 1st
7.1 leak I laughed when it worked straight away.

Shows how little they really know about why it isn't working, suppose they are just
Relying on their testers for info like that.

So to answer your question, yes, it worked straight away. Occasionally takes
A minute to swap over to it but my 9700 did that as well.

I am sorry for going off topic, but how is the battery life? Does it improve over time? I got mine yesterday and it has lasted less then 5 hours and I do not have and social networking or any other 3rd party applications.

Yeah it takes a few cycles to optimise sometimes.
Are you running the latest OS?.
Also tweak your settings.

Orange UK repeated to me yesterday (what they had previously told me on 14.3.2012) that there is still no date for the release of UMA (eg7.1) for 9900 by Orange......

quote: "we are waiting for RIM to release the software with the Orange settings - this is out of our hands - the eta on the system now says ME March 2012 but this cannot be true as we have not yet been briefed on the release".

The CS people were just reading out the info that they are given on their CRM systems. Does the Orange UK message sound truthful to you - that the hold-ups are with RIM?
