Exclamation O2 UK: Massive Blackberry Data Charges!!! :-(

Afternoon all! :-)

Had abit of a shocker this morning, went to make a call from my BB 8520, and got the message;

'Your call is being re-directed, please hold'

I was then transferred to another message telling me,

'You have exceded your credit limit - please call your balance by entering the long number on the front of your card' or something to that effect ...

I called CPW cust services (switchboard for those that dont have it, beats the queues - 02088965000) and was told I had gone over my call limit and had unbilled internet charges for £181!!! I asked how this had occured as I am on a Blackberry data plan and was told that it appeared that I had connected through the 'O2 Portal' rather than using 'Blackberry' to connect and browse and in doing such had racked up the above charges!
I have made no changes to my account with CPW other than calling up two weeks ago to check when I could upgrade - and have made no actual changes to the settings on my BB8520. My BB battery died on me during the night about 3 weeks ago, and when I charged it back up the following day my internet wouldnt work in the BB, even when on Wi-Fi. I performed a battery pull and it worked again. I upgraded to the following official software about two weeks ago - v5.0.0.1036 but noticed no changes and that is it!

Now I am being told that the £181 will be billed to me mid-March and that is that. I have asked them to carry out a network investigation which will take 6 weeks so a little unsure what to do now ...

Has anyone else expierenced anything similar?

I'm fuming to say the least because as far as I was concerned all data was included within my BB 'bolt-on/add-on' costing a fiver a month on my normal tariff.

Thanks!

my find on this is that providers have their own web portal... so when you browse you're redirected straight to their web page and then from there if you choose to download anything from that web portal... thats where they charge you.. for using their service.... cunning... but effective
