Default Moving to England

Hi,

I am moving to England in a few weeks to start my MBA. I've lived in london previously between 2003-2007, so I'm familiar with the networks there. After running a few searches, I've come to the conclusion that Orange offers PAYG BIS for £5 a month. However, I'm a little confused. I have an unlocked 9800. Do I need to get my pin 'released' from my service provider? Or can I just up-and-leave, and will have no worries setting up my emails, etc. once I'm using Orange PAYG BIS?

Looking forward to your opinions.

Cheers.

You'll need to have the pin and imei removed from your current service provider. Otherwise when you try registering the handset on BlackBerry Internet Service it'll just throw up the error message, device already registered with another network provider. Easily done however, usually just a case of calling your provider and advising them you want the account deleted as you're changing networks.

As Orange supports UMA, worth scanning the forum for what you need to do to enable it on your unlocked device.

Thanks a lot methos! Appreciate the help. I'll look into the UMA setup as I've never experienced that before.

I hope releasing the pin and imei is hassle free and can be restored to my service provider at home when I travel back for christmas break - but that is a worry for later!

Thanks again for your help buddy.

Yeah that can be done mate no worries. Would just be a call to orange and it'd be removed within seconds. Should be exactly the same with your current provider. Done it many a time myself so speaking from experience :-)

I am on o2 contract and they seem pretty good. However, try looking at GiffGaff (do a google search). They use the o2 network (which means you have reliability), and they are a PAYG network with a difference - it is community drive.

You always get unlimited internet as long as your phone has credit on it (which means you can use the BB services constantly. You can also buy 30 day "goody bags" (half price sale right now up until 5th September). for £5 (standard) you get unlimited texts. For £10 (currently £5 during the sale) you get Unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 100 minutes. You can also buy more than one goody bag at a time. The second goodybag will activate after the first has finished.

You will need an o2 or unlocked phone though.

Hope that helps

Amnesia, thanks for the info. When you refer to unlimited internet I am assuming BIS services too, right? Unlimited texts, 100 minutes, and unlimited BIS for £10 doesn't sound bad to me at all. Oh and are they unlimited texts to all providers? Or just GiffGaff and O2?

Okay this is strange because people are telling me that if my phone is unlocked, I don't need to get my pin released when moving to a service provider in a different country. All I would have to do is run the email setup with my new provider and I'd be set to go.

Can anyone PLEASE confirm/deny this with some experience?

I never had to do anything to release my PIN with T-Mobile US when I took my 8320 from the US to the UK and got a SIM only contract with T-Mobile UK.
