Default German carriers - Why so expensive!!!

Hi,

I'm going to be moving to Germany early next year and have been looking @ mobile contracts with the main providers O2 & T Mobile mainly.

Currently I live in the UK and have an O2 contract with 1000 mins and texts unlimited Internet plus Blackberry BIS etc all this plus a free BB 8900 curve.....
All this for £20 per month on an 18 month contract which has now expired.

Granted I got this good deal due to being with them for a long time but even on a new contract as a new customer you can get way better and cheaper deals in the UK compared to Germany.

Looking at the prices in Germany if you want a decent tariff with Blackberry service and Internet etc you are looking in excess of 50/60/70 euros plus a fee for the handset. Not forgetting the contracts are all 24 months long!

Does anyone know of any alternative websites who offer a decent deal as the prices I have seen in Germany just seem ridiculous compared to the UK.

I am actually contemplating to get a cheap deal here for the phone I want (Blackberry Torch 9800) and then get a sim only deal with Blackberry service in Germany, I wonder if that may kinda work out a little cheaper plus I will a sim card for when I am back in the UK on holiday etc

Any advice?
Also does anyone know if the Torch 9800 will be offered on the German network?

Hi,
in general you can say that o2 and eplus are at the moment the providers who offer the cheapest contracts. On the other hand eplus is by far the worst and o2 is the third best mobile provider in germany. Vodafone and T-Mobile offer similar contracts to your old one at around 80 €, i know it's expensive, but thats our system
The Torch is avaiable at Vodafone and will be soon coming to T-Mobile.

I just don't see why in comparrison it's still so expensive.
Having lived in Germany before and again moving back early next year i know that contracts have always been for 2 years.

I don't really know what to do in regards finding the best tariffe either wit T mobile or O2 because I find their websites and tariffs just so confusing and I'm fluent in German!

I will have to see come March next year and see how the prices are for the phone/ tarriffs and see if it is better just buying the phone (Blackberry Torch), or going via a contract.
I know here in the UK I can get the Torch free on an 18 month contract with BB internet and email with inclusive texts and minutes for around £25
