hey Iam on airtel as well is anyone aware of a workaround on how to get the unlimited plan with paying 899.
I had access to unlimited internet via mobile office on my nokia at a very low price. what I thought was i would use that to browse on the BB and for emails take up their 299 plan. Customer care tells me I cant use the Mobile office on BB, which is insane.

any ideas. thanks.

Ther is a trick for tat ...

I use DO 299 along with MO to access internet...

1. Activate the MONTH first using ur older phone by calling the customer care
2. Then switch to your BB and activate 299 ! So simple...

this works nly in Pre-paid.

People on airtel noticed that edge speeds suck mostly - Browsing is terrible during the days times, just the emails are instant!

Let me know if you guys had better luck witht he speeds! Also, if anone has had luck tethering that woud be great to share!

Regardin tethering, I advice u to buy TETHER - a gr8 software, but its price is too high

If you prepay for the whole year, the unlimited plan is Rs.6999 for the whole year which work out to less than Rs. 600 per month. Both Airtel and Vodaphone offer this, just walk into any of their centres

Tethering = using phone as modem to connect your laptop or PC to the internet. And yes this works for me, Im answering this using a tethered blackberry connections

Before trying to connect you need to have
1. Unlimited BIS 899 activated,
2. Then call 121 (not 7070) and ask them to activate GPRS on your number. They might ask you to call 7070, tell them it has to be done by 121 only ask for a supervisor if the agent is not able to do it.
3. Make sure you have the latest desktop manager installed.

Use these setting for Airtel Blackberry Connection:

APN: airtelgprs.com
Extra Initialization Command: +cgdcont=1,"IP","airtelgprs.com"
Dial Up Number: *99#

After creating the connection go to control panel> network connections> right click on the new connection you created for the blackberry> Properties> Options tab> PPP Settings> Uncheck Allow LCP Extensions

This should do the trick

Oh and you dont need to buy any software to do this. Hope this helps you, let me know if anyone has trouble getting connected.

Any luck with prepaid Airtel - India, Tethering options. I'm on the monthly 399 prepaid scheme but on tethering my main balance gets deducted.

Any work arounds or loopholes to exploit xD ?
