Default 3G in India

A friend of mine in India has requested a Bold 9900. Before I made the purchase for him, I had a couple of questions about 3G in India:

1) What 3G band(s) is/are used in India? I've read elsewhere that it's 2100 downlink and 1900 uplink. Are these used by ALL carriers? (I don't know his carrier's frequencies atm.)

2) Is 3G coverage even that good? I feel like I'm spending too much time on the 3G band issue when most areas are probably still on 2G.

Thanks!

Never mind. He's going to buy locally. Apparently not much of a price difference between the US and India.

Mods, feel free to do your thing

A frequent ebay buyer.
I can confirm positively that both Unlocked T-Mobile and Verizon devices are 3G compatible in India. They share the 2100hz 3G band that is present in both carriers as well as other carriers lik AT&T, Sprint and Rogers etc.
