So, to recap - wifi calling has been available on the 9860 for months (see my earlier screenshot in this thread). Wifi calling is only available on Orange (i think you'd need an Orange handset and not just OS), it can be forced by choosing wifi calling only or wifi calling prefered on the mobile network options, and UMA isn't released yet (I've no idea if it will come or if it's actually available on any OS anywhere in the world yet - perhaps the OS 7 handsets/software arent OS 7 compatible)

on the 9860 i got here the network pref option is missing (thought that was for UMA only) i have updated it to the Orange Rim version on site 9860jAllLang_PBr7.1.0_rel1149_PL5.1.0.276_A7.1.0.3 42_Orange_UK
the above would not Load on an None Orange branded phone correct?

but when i switch off Mobile data it not use wifi for calling (i be happy to just give him an 9870 as i know that works 100% on an BTHub2 and 3 {only if N is Disabled as its broke on the BTHub boxs) but he does not like the small keyboard

guess i could get him an Samsung galaxy S2 that's Orange Branded as that supports WiFi calling (not UMA), but the Orange Signal boost/Wifi calling app is bit unreliable on Android as it requires an phone reboot every 24hrs or it stops working and stays on mobile only (the app just quits soon as you go back to home screen or the app stays Red House)

he cant get any signal any network inside the house and he is tied in for another +1 year

the users who are saying wifi is calling working can you post the links to where you got the Orange banded update from that has wifi calling support ? for the 9860

no but i normally know more then what they do when i talk to them, (i have been faffing with this 9860 for an bit trying to get Wifi calling to work, should of checked before i got it that it Had UMA support, i just assumed all blackberry's had UMA as an standard feature, the the half baked Wifi calling feature)

guess i am going to have to sell this blackberry 9860 and see if i can peruse him to be happy with an Orange branded (UMA) blackberry 9870 or an Samsung S2 (Orange branded to get Wifi calling)

prefer the BlackBerry route as the UMA always works (his router is 100% happy with UMA) as i am not to happy with the Android wifi calling app is not very stable (restart the phone once an day to keep the app working)

the wife has an Samsung S2 so going to load an CM9 on it and drop on the Orange wifi calling app onto the phone (to bad you cant just Load the Orange Branded Rom onto the S2)

Wifi calling just appeared on my son's 9860 after the 7.1.0.714 install. It previously had 7.1.0.523, which did not have the wifi calling option. We are on Rogers in Canada, the UMA carrier for Canada.

ok need to be bit more careful with wording

Need Orange 9860 Rom for UK Wifi calling the settings need to be on the Rom (that's my understating)for it to work (quite sure this 714 download i am about to use is not going to work Wifi calling part any way, i try any way as its the only thing i have not done guess an 7th Rom load is not going to waste more time )

    ------------------------------

Right i have now managed to load 714 Yay used BBSAK to wipe the phone and removed Both Vendor.XML files (there is 2 of them!) the then used loader /nojvm to install the 714 rom

Think it was more an fail on my part on the Stupid second Vendor.XML file thats in C:\Users\>>your user folder<<\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML and here C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

    Default WIFI-Calling on Orange UK

Seriously folks, this issue is NOT difficult.

WIFI Calling is still UMA, its just a software implementation rather than a hardware solution.

That is why it drops calls when out of range, etc. Within range its just dandy.

There will be no change to the solution to make Hardware UMA available to 9860's. Software UMA (WIFI-Calling) is as good as you will get.

The issue with the option not showing is purely Firmware (OS) related. You need to flash your handset to a firmware that includes the option and then ENABLE IT.

The first firmware that I know has WIFI Calling included is 7.1.0.649 (China Telecom), which is what i am running just now. It is a bit buggy and I intend to upgrade....just mentioning that it was the very first OS version that has the necessary settings.

My set up is a UK O2 9860 handset, which I have unlocked and I use two different SIMS - One is my contract O2 and the other my Orange PAYGO Sim.

The overview of what I did (and you need to do) is as follows :

    1) Backup Data on your BB.
    2) Wipe and update your handset to 7.1.0.649 or above (Not sure which version is best)
    3) Now enter the Engineering Screens* and select through the following options

    - Radio Engineering Screens (3GPP)
    - 3GPP Radio Engineering Screens
    - Utilities
    - Session Manager
    - Press Blackberry button and select UMA Options
    - Select New UMA Profile

    4) Populate the fields as follows for use with Orange UK

    Display Name - orange uk
Operator Name - orange uk uma
    UNC Address - unc.singlephone.orange.co.uk
    Provisioning UNC Port - 14001
    Provisioning SEGW address - singlephone.orange.co.uk
Select from drop down - Equifax Secure Certificate Authority
    UMA Protocol version - 3GPP rev. 6

    5) Exit Engineering Screens.
    6) Now you will have the "Preffered Network for Calls" option showing under Mobile network, allowing you to select WI-FI Calling.

Note that this option shows for me regardless of which SIM I have in my handset although it only functions with WIFI Calling when using my Orange UK SIM.

The Orange UK UMA service has ALWAYS been available for use by anyone who knows the above settings.................we were just waiting for the option to be in the OS.

Note - that even when the option is there.....it's HIDDEN until you ACTIVATE it via Engineering screens.

    * - Engineering Screens can be accessed by following these instructions :
Advanced Help Screen - How To Get and Use It

TIP - To get to the HELPME screen on the 9860 - HOLD down the Back/ESC button, and tap top left of screen, then top right of screen, then top left of screen, then top right of screen.

(The reason that some people are seeing the options automatically is because their network provider is pushing down the UMA settings to the handset - that's the only difference)

Good Luck and let me know if you get any issues.

only Orange UK support UMA (BIS not needed for UMA) and wifi calling (need BIS services for WiFi calling to work or mess with the settings to get wifi calling it to work without BIS like you just shown)

had this issue with the 9860 i put his sim into the 9860 with the [714-716?] no wifi calling put my PAYG sim back in that had BIS active wifi calling worked soon as the 3g Blackberry Icon shown (i had to go down the drive to get an signal as he has no coverage inside the house for any nework)

i am asumming its working now (called orange to turn on BIS but they say could take 24hrs before it was fully active) as he has not called me back to say its not working (going to give him an call as i left the rubber case in my car for the phone)

Default Glad your getting some progress leexgx

Hope you get everything working as it should.

I have to say though, my WIFI-Calling works fine on my Orange UK PAYGO SIM without needing to have a BIS plan activated.

My BIS plan is on my O2 SIM (Bought the handset on contract with O2, but will be cancelling in 5 mths) and I swap between to the two because of the UNLIMITED Data tethering for a pound a day on orange pay as you go, plus wifi-calling.

if O2 coverage is good where you are giffgaff works well (tethering not officially allowed but it works just do not use it for heavy downloading or constant streaming, they are going to be doing tethering detection at some point that cuts the data off for 15 mins but VPN will most likely sort that out)

I use Orange for my main phone (9780 that lasts 3-4 days between charges 2G only setting) and giffgaff backup/fun phone (sold me HTC One X downgrading/upgrading to an Motorola Razr Maxx due to i want an phone that lasts longer then nearly to the end of the day, the max is an slower phone but prefer an phone I know can last 2 days under My normal use or 1 day under heavy use)
