Was kind of wondering how other devs have their development PCs set up.
Things like what OS you run, what development tools you use, what you use for backing up tour code, and things if that nature.

Personally I run Windows 8, mostly code in Notepad++, and keep all my app code on a separate partition from the PC OS and also keep it backed up to Dropbox.

Depends on what kind of stuff I'm working on, I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu.

Windows 7: some sort of IDE depending on what I'm developing - Momentics 10.2, VS 2010 or 2012. Notepad++ for stuff like XML.
Ubuntu 13.04: Kate or lots of consoles with vim, and Makefiles.

I keep all my files in a git or SVN repository at assembla.com. You can actually start a free 1GB account there - pretty much the only place I've found with free repos. Sometimes I back things up to dropbox, but mostly assets like icons and stuff.

At work I use Win 7, VS 2010 and CMake.

How does Win 8 hold up with the virtual machines? For my Arch I use virtual machines for all other OSs

I use vmware workstation 9 for that, and is pretty good, it works pretty well for me, but I have some descent hardware too so that surely helps

Not cheap at all, whatever it works is OK lol.
I have my setup because part of my job requires that, and my home as well

    I have a complex setup.

I have 4 computers at home.

1 - Plain old generic desktop as my backup / house machine
1 - 12x3GB drive quad core with 16GB ram and two raid cards. Serves as my backup and media server

Now for my actual development work, all 4 machines are connected to Skydrive. Skydrive has been upgraded. And Skydrive contains all software packages.

The master server has a copy set to the first drive cluster. That drive cluster does daily incremental backups to the other cluster which is a RAID5.

What does this mean? I can recover any application build to any day in the last year from any of my 4 machines

Development tablet --- Surface Pro 128GB. Uses win 8.1. I love it.

Development laptop --- NYX 1712 - 32GB RAM, i7 with 3xSSD in RAID0. Running win 8 - everything's top of the line in this one.

    Software packages are :
    GLBasic
    DarkBasic
    Marmalade
    Sencha
    Phonegap
    App Studio
    VC++ 2010 + 2012
    VB 2010 + 2012
    Webworks / Cascades and NDK
    ADT
    Unity
    And Flash Builder 4.7

Edit: For iOS, I use Mac OS via Vm Ware on my developer laptop to do work.

I've got Windows 7 on my desktop at work (still need it for BBOS development as well).
At home I mostly use a desktop with Fedora 18, though I sometimes use my other desktop (/w Windows 7) when I need functional QML preview.
When on the go, I use my laptop that's technically dual-boot, but spends most of its time in Ubuntu 13.04

As far as tooling, I use the Momentics-based BlackBerry Native SDK.
I also religiously use Git for managing my source code, with various upstreams. (And when I've had to touch SVN, I frequently did it with git-svn.)
My diff/merge tool of choice is Beyond Compare.
For misc editing, I find myself frequently bouncing between GVim, Notepad++, and Sublime Text.

My dev environment isn't set up, because I foolishly upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04 to Ubuntu 13.10. The ia32-libs are missing from Ubuntu 13.10, so Momentics no longer starts.

You can install the missing ia32-libs by downloading the source code and compiling for 32-bit. Alternatively, you can supposedly install the binaries for ia32-libs according to this blog post.

You shouldn't need 4gb to run it, but if you have much less than that you're not going to be able to run any Windows version newer than XP very well.

I very much doubt WebWorks2 actually needs 4gb of ram. But if it's not installing, just use WebWorks1. I'm actually still using it because it's more "pure" Web Development, WebWorks2 is more SDK based.
