    Hello,

Does anyone know if the Android source code used by BlackBerry on top of BlackBerry 10 is available? I've been searching and I guess it is probably not since the license is Apache which is non copyleft.

    Do you know about that?

If someone would want to replace the Android runtime for a newer runtime (6 or next 7) would it be feasible?

    Bests,

    B.

I'm pretty sure the QNX-Android interaction source is closed; were it under another license they'd have to have put up the source some time between 2011 and now. Conversely, their Android kernel modifications are freely available.

Besides, even if we had the source, we couldn't do anything about it unless we had the signing keys to replace the Android runtime and supply the relevant system-only permissions to the finished product.

Hi. That you for your answer.

I had already looked at GitHub. That repository only contains a Readme.md file.

Are you sure that signing the bar files as BlackBerry would be needed?

Besides, there are two bar. One is a shell. Do you know what that one does?

    Bests,

    B.

Check the branches on the Github repo...

And yes, signing the bar file as BlackBerry is needed, since the Android runtime requires system-level permissions that are BB only. As well, if you want a drop-in replacement as opposed to a second Android runtime, that requires replacing the old version, i.e. using the same signing key.

    But if from this architecture:

I take off as much as possible, and make it compile over BB10/QNX, do I still need BlackBerry signing keys?

The lack of source code/deep OS access and resulting necessity to reverse engineer the native voodoo are bigger fish to fry than signing keys...
