    I found my old blackberry curve 8330 while cleaning out my closet and I want to use it again as a back up phone but I don't know if it will work on today's network carriers

    It would require BIS and depending on where you are located it my not be available. But assuming you're on Verizon, I do believe they still offer that service as an additional charge.

    Blackberry Internet Service. Just having Internet on a blackberry up to OS10 was not enough. You needed a special service set up by your carrier. If you just want it for phone calls and texting,you don't need BIS. Anything involving internet (apart from the Browser) will not work without it.
