Vintage Berry Apps. ?

I'm looking into an older berry to supplement my obsession / collection.
These days my local craigslist has numerous older models for next to nothing.

Can anyone say for sure which old berry will support BB Messenger and which will not?

I realize most will have a monochrome screen, thats fine but I would miss BBM terribly.

FWIW I do not use BES. I have BIS only.

Anything in a particular series to shy away from?

I know the 72xx series running 4.1 have BBM and yahoo messenger works on it too.
