unlocked 7290 is acting up

hi there all...
i recently bought a 7290 off ebay (keep it oldschool)
its fully unlocked, and when i put in my 02 sim card it recognizes it and connects to 02 and i get full signal. but then, when i try and make a call it just says call failed and the same happens when i try and send a text.
i called 02 and they said they had no idea what was going on...
can anyone help me? is there some setting i haven't turned on?

try going to options/advanced options/host routing table and register it with the network
