Noob Question - Emails

Is it possible with a Blackberry to use it to read emails WITHOUT access to wifi or 3g?

My wife rides a bus to work and she would sync the Blackberry before she leaves for work and read them on the bus, and resync after work to update them.

if you have wifi or 3g on it will use active sync to send those emails to your phone. then you can turn those networks off and read the emails. But you have to have BES/BIS in order to receive any emails at all.
