Default 7230 as pay as you go?

Hi,

My wife is able to get hold of a 7230 for £20. Is it worth her buying it just for the phone itself without the monthly blackberry tarrif. It has an O2 sim, can she pay as she goes ? She understands that she will be passing up all the blackberry features but just wants it for calls.
