gotta be a better way to change the oil!

I am going to assume there is another reason why the engine is out of the vehicle other than for an oil change

Ok since I am now looking at the picture on a computer and am able to see more detail (but still as tired, freaking woodpeckers), why did they pull the engine and trans axle in one unit? Admittedly I never worked on such a vehicle but seems kinda odd to me.

you gotta drop the whole subframe with motor and trans to get the engine out of a cadillac with a northstar engine in it
