the iphone app prolly won't be as capable...due to the proprietary app store requirements....android is open source, so plugin development will be greater, easier and faster....
and it seems like the hardware is WAY better...i don't have specs yet, but the HTC device is rock solid...and it's not even on android 2.0 yet! - 10-23-2009, 02:40 PM

it uses the camera for some stuff...
some plugins have this recognition software that uses the camera....it looks up locations based on the outline, shape, color of an item or building...and then gives you info on it...
if you go to the layar website, there's a screen shot of someone doing that to big ben or something...
also, one of the display settings is to act like a HUD....it has a grid on it indicating distances, and the locations or items of interest are displayed in a "view finder" of sorts, and it displays whatever you're looking at through the camera...
so if you're standing in a street, facing north, it gives you everything that would be within your view through the camera lense...as you turn to face northwest, the view adjusts per what the view shows through your camera....the website shows all of that...it's amazing.
it uses GPS, the accelerometer and a magnetometer...and it's very precise - 10-23-2009, 02:46 PM #7
wow thats how I was imagining it might work. Didn't realize they put this into practice, I seen some show on discovery or one of those channels about this technology about a year or so ago. very cool, this will definitely change how we see things outside in the near future.

you can never get lost again...if you're in cell coverage, and GPS coverage, then you have directions to anything you want...and with android everything updates OTA in seconds....
firmware update (that means OS for those who don't know) for the moto took like 30 seconds to download OTA - 10-23-2009, 03:16 PM #10

Oh no...we're losing Patches to Android!
Actually, we were just talking about getting an Android phone a couple nights ago. Believe it or not, it would probably replace the iPhone 3G so that we could get both phones on Verizon and tell AT&T to suck it. Then if that goes well then maybe replace the Storm with Android later? Kinda depends on whether or not I win a Storm 2 from Crackberry (not likely)...lol! The problem in both cases though is having to start all over with the apps and stuff. - 10-23-2009, 04:13 PM

If you like anime, I suggest you watch it. This technology is featured prominently throughout the series. The 11/3 Project I like my flawed logic of a raving madman to be a bit funnier. - 10-25-2009, 08:00 PM #15
ok, quick question. I have looked this over, and then went to Boygenius and followed the link to the driod. looks pretty nice. and the OS and everything seems way more advanced then anything out.
1. since my phone is up in 2 months (just after xmas. what would the advantage be for me to stay with the Blackberry and just go S2? vs. the driod
2. Is open source similar to the open source for web creation...DNN etc.... If so then how will this technology not blow apple and BB right out of comp.I have to much time on my hands.
