Why no rumours of new Playbook?
With all the hullabaloo about BB10 recently there is nary a peep about any incoming innovations regarding an updated tablet from BB. Does it mean they are abandoning the form factor?
Has anyone heard of anything else coming from BB with tablets? - 12-03-2012, 11:46 AM #2
RE: Why no rumours of new Playbook?
We were having a discussion about this on another thread, I am sure we will see a new tablet in the future but my own feeling is that the playbook name will die - too tarnished.

Not sure, since current PlayBooks are going to be updated to OS10, is there a need for RIM to release another one? Maybe so, but I reckon that will depend on the success on BB10..

My guess is that they're doing a major redesign. With RIM's recent troubles in execution, they need every possible attention focused on BB10.

Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????
It's because it's CRACKBERRY, the BEST BB site....

They do have the patent for some sneaky hiding keyboard...I just don't think the next tablet is out of R&D and design phase.

RIM shouldn't even be thinking about a new tablet right now.
Everything should be focused on BB10 phones. And if they gain the traction they need to turn the company around (big if), then it MAY be something they look into at least a year down the road - if at all. - 12-03-2012, 12:31 PM #7XoXoXo

With RIM, I think their internal motto should be "ONE THING AT A TIME." Or two, in the case of L and N series devices.
I love my PlayBook and the thought of a new tablet from RIM, but I don't think they should take any attention or focus away from the launch of the new phones.Sean

Why no rumours of new Playbook?
They still have to launch a 4g PlayBook in the states. Maybe they are waiting for 10 to launch it? Idk but every time I check the website it says coming soon to the U.S

I like the rebranding idea : BlackBerry 10 Book (BB10B or 3B10 lol) ... could be nice for marketing; "we changed it all" ... ooops ... sounds familiar ? lol"I speak English like a Spanish Cow"

+1 for focus.
I love my PlayBook, but cmon ... it's revenue isn't materially impacting, but its costs were!
Right now, they need to focus on what bring in the big bucks - phones and service revenue.
If they can find a way to make money on a tablet, let them ... after the phones are out. - 12-03-2012, 04:41 PM #15
The hardware is fine on the PlayBook. Even the QNX based software isn't bad...but if they put OS10 on the current PB, that would make a lot of people happy for the time being.
I don't see a new PB until late next year at the earliest. They're probably shifting all of their focus on the mobile handset division right now (as they should be). - 12-03-2012, 04:59 PM #17
Even though it wouldn't be "smart" for RIM to release a new PB, I sure as would love a white 7 in updated pb with bb10!!

They need to get BB10 and the new device done right. Launched properly, gain momentum.... THEN, MAYBE... they can but focus back on tablets. Right now, the smart thing to do would be to release BB10 for the Playbook and nurture that for the time being (after January 30th).
