Default WES Expectations

Now that Apple has unveiled it's new OS BlackBerry needs to step up its game if it wants to maintain its loyal customer base. We are falling behind our competitors and likely to lose market share if changes aren't announced soon. Every device that currently has OS 5.0 must get the new webkit browser just to keep its current customer's good graces.

All of our competitors have had webkit based browsers for more than a year. I don't even consider that an upgrade as much as a patch on the weakest part of the OS. In order to be ahead of the market BlackBerry needs to lead the market on a couple of features as opposed to playing catchup. I was argue that the next revolution in smartphones will be in two areas, battery power and software. I am looking forward to Adobe Air's ability to run software across multiple platforms. I want applications to grow in size and quality.

At some point in the near future a new standard is going to be incorporated into most major home electronics. I'm thinking easy compatability with automotive electronics, home heating and cooling and home security systems. If BB can create the standard that extends the interoperability with other electronic devices it will give them a leg up.

I second that..I've got my eye on the Nexus One right now. Just seems too much of a good thing to pass up.

I heard RIM's been secretly working day & night on a snap-on camera lens that will do 10x zoom. Everything else has been pushed to the back-burner to get this ready for WES.

I'm Excited!!!

I second that Mashiro...WTF on the camera lenses?

Speters look at the HTC Incredible. Better than Nexus 1...and coming by end of April.

RIM has been on Radio Silence for some time. I think they are going for some wow factor at WES. I expect to see more about:

* OS 6
* Storm 3
* Slider
* Webkit

I think OS6 and WebKit will have a lot of integration and tie into all the new SDK changes they are making. So maybe we'll get a taste of that.

I can't believe I'm about to say this considering how much I love my 9700, but.....

I'd been really excited about the slider and the Dakota and the webkit. But Skyfire's comment - however unprofessional it was since it was definitely a hit below the belt in a very public manner - really took the wind out of me. I thought, based on some comments here, that I would finally get Flash for my phones. I know that a lot of people say Flash is a problem with battery and memory drain, but I'm sure that there are ways to address those issues. So, I've changed platforms before and since I feel very deflated now I am looking for WES.
HTML5 is the future and there is not timeframe for its full implementation. Flash is here now.
I went from thinking this would be a great year to being really let down. I hope WES has something good, I really do.
WinMo isn't that bad. 6.1 runs nicely on an five year old phone, I can only imagine what it would be like on a new device. I've switched platforms before, so why am I so disappointed?
