I'm not believing there is a announcement... This is another Samsung style rumor... Not even a shred of info or speculation was found in doing a Google search...

All this speculation and no facts to support any of it. I will make two points based on the thread content.
1. No company which has partnered with Microsoft has ever come out ahead and usually gets the screwed in the anal cavity treatment.
2. Holding an internal briefing for employees of Research In Motion AFTER the public announcement would be asinine since the "perception is reality" content released to the public would overshadow the corporate spin machine. If a company does not trust its employees with an internal briefing before a public announcement is released is on the road to failure and collapse.
That said, I thought Mr. Heins is stupid enough to take on additional ventures when there are plenty of internal problems that need to be addressed. Another strategic announcement after the joke that was the release of yet another Angry Birds game? ROFLMAO - 04-24-2012, 09:26 PM #28
This site I've never heard of is the only one to have a source on this? I checked my other favorite BlackBerry sites and out of two, neither had a mention outside of a forum link to the other sites...

The only 'strategic partnership' I see being a real option would be Amazon or possibly someone in the chipset/hardware manufacturing.
Facebook is out of the question, as RIM has said its focus is the enterprise sector, not providing Instagram update devices. Plus this sector is heavily dominated by Apple and Android.
As for Microsoft, they seem to be heavily invested in their own mobile platform and would say they want to see how that shakes out before abandoning it. Plus I question how the DOJ would view that partnership, any possible monopoly implications?
Amazon seems plausible. They currently have no true mobile device except the Fire. Partnering with RIM would give all those Amazon account users increased mobility. Add in their Prime media streaming and an continuously increasing e-book market and having solid mobile devices and tablets makes sense. RIM has the platform and is building the OS, plug in Amazon's account base and media content, seems like it would work.
On the other hand some chip manufacturer like TI could be possible but that would only satisfy the hardware end. RIM is sorely lacking content namely super apps. I would love to see a BB10 device running super fast, but if it doesnt have a solid app ecosystem what is the point? - 04-24-2012, 10:39 PM #30
SPECULATION: Rim and Facebook strategic partnership? Announcement tomorrow.
Amazon or Ultra Violet (Vudu) Hollywood. Somin dealing with media content. That's the boost that is needed for now.

So they're gonna announce a strategic partnership with a bank to assess the possibility of a strategic partnership with a content provider? Baby steps I guess. As long as they're advised to partner with amazon, I'm happy.
Atleast he explicitly states that a sale isn't even being considered. I'm tired of all the repeat threads about sales. - 04-25-2012, 01:41 AM #36
Please, no partnershps with a major data mining company like Google or Facebook. Please.

I like Microsoft, I like RIM, I like the idea of them partnering.

I put a tiny white stone for a threesome ...
MS (the most probable to me) + a device manufacturer (Samsung is my favorite).

I'm sorry, but is it really conceivable that RIM - to whom corporate and data security is paramount - would partner with a company such as facebook or amazon? And Microsoft? A hardware partnership with Windows Phone would make zero sense seeing how the majority of RIMs profit is coming from their network operations and software. This is just idle and baseless speculation!
- 04-25-2012, 07:22 AM #42
Microsoft would make perfect sense if it was a small partnership. RIM could get some Microsoft services and APIs and MS could get complete control over enterprise and leave little hope of Apple entering that market. Don't think MS feels safe with the enterprise with Apple gaining momentum in every aspect of their business.

I get what you mean. I really hope that ESPN doesn't partner with Lifetime television. Luckily, there's about as much evidence of an ESPN-Lifetime partnership as there is Apple-RIM.
Not necessarily. As the article notes, MS has acquired Skype, yet there's still not a decent Skype app for WP7; I'm not sure there's reason to believe a "partnership" would be any better.

Facebook Reportedly Working With HTC On New Smartphone
Facebook Reportedly Working With HTC On New Smartphone
Facebook is working with HTC on a “customized” smartphone that is expected to launch in the third quarter or later, DigiTimes reports, citing “industry sources.”
The piece notes that HTC had worked with Google on the Next One phone, but that Google is now working with Samsung on new phones. Samsung has become the leading seller of Android-based phones.
According to the DigiTimes story, the new Facebook/HTC phone “will have a platform exclusive to Facebook to enable and integrate all functions available on the social networking site.” HTC has previously sold two Facebook-enabled smartphones, the Salsa and Chacha.

judging by all the previous RIM announcements when they over stated and bloated the importance of the facts, this is probably something like a strategic alliance with a third world mobile carrier to serve Azerbaijan market or something like that....

LOL! That's probably the most likely. I hope not though.
Definitely hope not Facebook.
