Default Slipped under the radar? BB Maps now with turn by turn directions

Ok, maybe I'm late to this but i used BB Maps to navigate today after upgrading to latest 7.1 for my 9900 and it now has a banner at the top with turn by turn direction, arrows and written as well as a count down mileage to the next junction.

Not only that but it also auto re-routes if you make a wrong turn.

This calls for a front page review!!!!!!!!

I also noticed that Blackberry Traffic is much improved after it's last update. Way to go RIM!

Cool. Nice feature. Now they need to incorporate the voice guidance traffic routing from BB traffic and they'll have a winner. Looks like they're working on it.

This might start to catch my interest if it offered offline maps.

Why offline? It uses very very little data.

GPS is most helpful in places that you're unfamiliar with - which means you're probably either out of coverage altogether or far enough from your home coverage area which means you're roaming and encountering high data charges.

Lol, where do you live? For what it's worth it works pretty well on slow gprs network and it does cache maps.

Edit- I just tried it, I turned signal off and I could still use the maps I've already opened, zoom in, zoom out etc

Blackberry Traffic has turn by turn voice guidance now, but no maps. Looks like BBMaps now has the guidance but no voice. Hopefully they will get these integrated better soon. BB Traffic is really great especially since it is free.

U definitely have the right mind with that thinking....i think voiced turn by turn directions, coupled with off-line maps would be such a huge feature for BB owners...actually for Playbook owners. Ive always wished i could use my Playbook as a true navigation unit and offline maps would be HUGE seeing as how its a wifi only unit

It might be coming too. RIM had a survey on their beta site a little bit ago asking what features users wanted to come to the playbook and both BB Maps with online maps (thru bridge or wifi) and BB Maps with offline maps (for use anywhere) were selectable options

It's a native app. If you're on pre-OS7 AT&T, its hidden by AT&T.
