Skype field shows up in contacts in Beta 4 documentation
Berryreview posted an article that shows Skype is now an option in the contacts field in the new documentation. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Hopefully, but it could be just the instant messaging or just holds info.

I don't want to the party, but all it could mean is an address field in the PIM app and not the whole Skype app.
More interesting are the music player popup and the toasts.Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall today

I think this is huge! If there was no way in contacting someone, the info tag/category wouldn't be offered.
Maybe RIM is being optimistic, or maybe they're getting everything done right! This made my day! - 11-29-2012, 01:25 PM #8
When the PB was first released last year, they marketed it showing a Skype icon right on the home screen. They jumped the gun I think. Hopefully they got it right this time.

There's also a fax number field, but most of us aren't faxing through our BBs. I'm not ruling it our as I don't know if it's impossible, but I think it may be.

What jonty12 said...
In any decent contact management app, you want the ability to note arbitrary pieces of contact info even if they have no direct support on the device you're entering them on. This means nothing about whether we'll get full Skype capability, I'm afraid, unless it's a deliberate "wink" by the writer. (Which Ronen hinted at... it's not like he thought this meant "oh, Skype app!")Battery Guru for BB10 tracks voltage, power, battery health. (Also on the PlayBook.) Skype field shows up in contacts in Beta 4 documentation
With the release of "skype-like" capability with BBM, is it possible that BBM might become a gateway through which skype connectivity happens?? Just wondering out loud...

There's been some speculation that this might be the case. That speculation's been going on since OS 2 was released in February, though, so it's hard to say how valid it is.
I will say, though, that with Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger in favor of Skype that it's in their best interest to get it out to as many platforms as possible. Making it available on BB10 makes a little more sense when you look at it that way. - 11-29-2012, 05:17 PM #15
There was a thread months ago by someone claiming to have a friend who works in the network side for RIM and this is exactly how they said Skype would work in BlackBerry 10 with Skype being baked into the OS like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn has, giving you the option to use the video chat with Skype contacts.
We will have to wait and see because tweets from the Dev releation teams hinted that they were still working on getting Skype; possibly a smokescreen to surprise on launch day.Regards,

Why is the Z10 Bridge worse then it was on my 9850? - 11-30-2012, 06:09 AM #19
I suppose the reasonable thing to do is to accept it for what it is, just a contact field.
But i don't feel like being reasonable right now, i feel jumpy, happy, and elated.
I do believe that the inclusion of a Skype field in contacts points not only to a Skype app, but to some sort of deep integration of Skype services as well.
If MS wasn't willing to make a Skype app willingly, maybe RIM decided to engage them with a business proposal, ( something along the lines of 10 million dollars and 50 developers at your doorstep if u give us Skype ?? ) and in doing so, they could dictate how deeply integrated they wanted it to be, making it a better experience than possible on iOS and Android ??
I think i got carried away
Anyways, does anyone know how to recommend a thread as newsworthy for the blog ? I thought I saw the option once, but i cant seem to find it now - 11-30-2012, 10:06 AM #20
If it went down with MS being unwilling, I think that it's more likely that RIM have been trying to licence Skype for years and that since we are now heading towards the launch of a major new platform they fell back on their law department and threatened an anti-trust suit and MS decided that they didn't really care that much and caved. I've always thought that MS keeping skype only on android and iOS and its own phones was anti-competitive, and certainly gave the impression that if you weren't google, apple or MS that your devices just didn't count.

Skype is replacing WLM so this is not surprising. I believe this means zero as far as skype video chat coming to BlackBerry10 though.
I waited...It launched...Im still waiting...
