Yeah, I'm not really in IT, so I don't know about the interface and such. But the agency we are working with (which is much, much, bigger than NOAA) chose them late last year and we've already started to deploy our apps on iPads and iPhones to their agents.

In those meetings, the Good pitch was very impressive and they seem to have a lot of momentum right now in the federal govt. Our client spoke with 4-5 other CIOs who are also switching and the reviews were great, which is why I expect more announcements or reports like this.

At least in the case of this agency I work with, RIM had no real answer to Good's pitch other than wait for BB10. (This is an agency that needs more than a dozen custom apps and wants what they consider a modern OS to build them on. In that respect perhaps it was a mistake for the RIM salesperson to offer that RIM will have a 'modern OS' a year from that point).

Again, right or wrong, this a trend I see among federal CIOs. With a few exceptions, they all seem to talk to each other on these things.

Because you need to be a member for several years to be able to identify trolls on these boards. I concede - your logic is bullet proof.

EDIT: LOL! 200 posts. Your math is equally as good as your logic.

I think what's going to staunch the flow of these announcements is Fusion.

If an organization is already on BES, and can adopt Fusion for BYOD, it will be easier and cheaper than going to a completely different platform, but RIM has to get it out there first.

Ok - not discussing Android - there are waay too many holes there for now (generally). With regard to encryption - I was not referring to Good specifically, but protocal specifically. All handhelds allow for encryption. If the handheld is locked and encrypted using only the device's own settings; I will repeat you are not getting anything of use off the device. The tests on the I-Phone were on an un-locked, unencrypted device. If you as an admin push those policies, the I-phone is secure. Is anything as secure as a device running through the NOC? No. But for most communications it is an unnecessary security layer.

Lets keep on topic please. @mjs416

FedGov loves RIM, or has, and kept pushing and working with RIM to update their product line and expand their ecosystem. Business needs were discussed and the best RIM could do (in many cases) is to say "we are working on it". Well they are finally acting on what they have said for the last two to three years, and while it is very late (12 months ago is when BB10 should have been), it is still here. RIM deserves to lose some of their "core" customers, they need to realize the market place, yes business marketplace, is very demanding. They will adapt, and will bring out BB10 to market and try to win these customers back. BB fusion will help keep people invested in the current architecture, and then when BB10 comes out there will be a good mix of devices in the enterprise. RIM doesnt have to keep their ridiculously high percentage, they just have to keep it close in the business sector, and they need to start making progress in the consumer.

for many corporations and government agencies yes, you are correct. I am speaking from an NSA/DoD/security conscious environment. MANY companies are adopting a "good enough" risk mitigation strategy. And yes this will absolutely hurt RIM. (see my previous post for the rest of this) lol

And while I am posting this link yes, I know this company offer's BlackBerry forensic tools as well. Those are just significantly easier to defeat and the "fix" can be applied to all devices via BES at the same time. This article indicates 20 minutes to break ENCRYPTED iOS 5 data. It is a couple months old so I am unsure of any specific fixes, but here you go. Nothing (including BlackBerry security) is unbreakable. Just giving the different levels of security that DoD has said.

I am off for the day, but well done on the conversation. You stayed analytical and while passionate didnt devolve into petty insults. I very much enjoy conversations like this.

Thanks for the link... Says clearly that they are supporting BBs (at least until May 2012). Now, can we move on?

Yes but you made a reference to it and the total time someone has been here. I was just saying he didn't have the opportunity to be liked for the entire 3+ years because it hasn't been around that long.

Also, to your question, pk explained why those sections are here. iMore has an "other smartphone section" as well. CB is a bigger community so it has more specific sub forums for other platforms.

Other Smartphones

They filed it under "other" with WebOS, etc. I don't think BB has the interest to justify a separate forum on an iPhone site, while the iPhone section of CB appears to have more activity than the BB News & Rumors section if I'm reading the stats correctly.

And guess what - the like system has been in place for the same amount of time for all members who existed at its inception. I think you missed my point.

Wait... I think that is exactly what OP said, and the counters were "Bah! That's a fanboi site", and "Not until I hear it from the NOAA!!!".

So, now it's never mind, move along, nothing to see here, BB won't be dropped for another NINETY DAYS, why be concerned?!?!?!
