Read somewhere (in French) that they didn't limit their action to the apple store but also went to a news company and a pool ... funny anyway.

EDIT: it this the counter some are talking about ?

That clock counts down in 5.77 days, not June.

I agree and defiantly aware RIM has not even announced a 4G (LTE/HSPA+) PB yet, personally I think the whole flash mob thing in general is just stupid. But being problematic is pretty much the point behind these types of ad campaigns (it's not the destination but the journey).
Also considering the laundry list of companies/organizations that would love to take shots at Apple, I would rank RIM pretty far down that list. This type of campaign typically is way more similar to a human right protest than a RIM commercial. But I guess we will see around July who was behind it.
On a side note it is pretty funny watching blogs try and figure it out, heck Mac World Australia is even reporting that it might mean BB10 devices will be announced/release in July. - 04-30-2012, 02:35 PM #30
They (<<< whoever is behind this) are not telling Apple to "Wake Up!". The wake up thingy is maybe directed to the consumers, to wake up from the iDream.
If Apple releases female pads (iPads hehe) even males would buy them and Kotex would go broke. < And that's what's wrong IMO

That count down may be a countdown until the Australian version of the iPad gets a working 4G model...
or the countdown until people realize they have been duped int spending hard earned money for no reason at all
either way, some more apple logos on peoples screens. hopefully the message gets across.
(let the trolling begin, since all i have done is speculate what the countdown can be for... just like everyone else)------------------------> LIST OF WORKING Android Apps for Z10/BB10 ---190 SO FAR!!! <------------------------

Directly attacking consumers you want to buy your product is not a good thing. Apple makes more than just smartphones. If this is Samsung/RIM/whoever, they could be attacking their customers in there, while they are shopping at Apple for other needs/wants.
There is no iDream. Apple makes products that people like and want.Thanked by:MartyMcfly (04-30-2012)

Maybe it's meaningless.
It does sound like the beta phone commercial though.
It doesn't seem like something RIM would do. - 04-30-2012, 03:31 PM #37
It's a little of both. Apple makes good products, but a ton of consumers buy Apple products because of he hype surrounding them. It's the flavor of the month currently and has been for the past 3 years. Stuff like this doesn't last forever. Most people like to try new things and eventually they will.

Just want to say that for people who are saying this may be RIM and saying that it's terrible marketing, and saying RIM has horrible marketing and all that...I agree they have bad marketing of their products...but people can't say this is bad marketing...1) we don't know if this is RIM, so why rip on them already...2) this isn't technically Marketing because its not marketing anything
Whatever this is for, and whoever it is from, its actually very clever and a great way to get word-of-mouth going...and to stage it in front of an Apple store is great! the most popular company and product...people will interpret this a bunch of ways, but until that countdown is over we will not know what its for
This is a great thing if RIM did do it...it has people on iMore discussing, it has samsung users discussing and Blackberry users as well...wouldnt it be amazing when the countdown ends and its RIM announcing something amazing!? sooooo people should stop ripping on RIM saying its bad marketing, cuz its not marketing, and its actually creating a buzz which is what (if this is RIM) RIM needs to do!
also this Ad is not "attacking" Apple in anyway...its merely going to the top company and creating a buzz about another product or company, orrr something we don't know...its smart all-in-all no matter who did it or what its for... - 04-30-2012, 03:41 PM #39
True. But look at Microsoft. Windows is no longer what it once was in some ways, but they still hold 80%+ share today, 17 years after Windows 95. The fact is people generally don't like to try new things once they've found something they're comfortable with, especially things that come with with contracts and UIs.
- 04-30-2012, 03:45 PM #40
Also, this is just proof that people want reasons to rip on RIM...if in 2 days we find out its Apple who staged this and its announcing some Apple news...people will be like "OMG this is amazing, genius!!" but because people think its RIM everyone starts instantly ripping into how their previous marketing methods were terrible and how this is horrible as well...
Just remember people...Apple made this HUGE buzz over their webpage, and all possible outlets about something coming to iTunes...and it turned out to be that they can now sell The Beatles on iTunes...again if RIM did this...everyone would rip on them saying its terrible marketing and they shouldn't have created this hype...Apple it the top company and with that power people believe everything they do must be the right and best thing...yet, do the same thing with RIM and its crap...PlayBook commercials were identical to Apple commercials, showing just the device and someone's hands using apps, or playing games or whatever...and if u think about it, its identical to what Apple has done with them showing their iPhone and just showcasing their apps and powers...yet RIM gets ripped on
Just a clip for the iPad and PlayBook...personally I like the PlayBook Ad more!Last edited by mphillips828; 04-30-2012 at 09:03 PM.

I hope RIM did this. I just don't think so. It's a cute and catchy idea.

I would only think you do something like this is you have something that is going to blow people's socks off...I don't see a LTE Playbook doing that. If it is RIM then they better have something spectacular to show us.

I made fun of the iPad's name just like you did. Apple just reported profits right around 10 BILLION dollars.
I can pretty much suggest that no one at Apple gives one flying fig who makes fun of their products' names.....most companies would name their products Trojan Magnumites if it got them 10 BILLION dollars.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup
Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????

Doesn't RIM use busses for their marketing road trips?
Why is it that when your contract commitment is up, the phone you always wanted is now old and the phone you now want won't be out until the next quarter?

And why didn't Blunty just walk up to one of them and ask what it was all about?

The font looks very similar to what RIM uses for their marketing campaign's. I'm really hoping this is their work and they actually give apple users something worth waking up for.
