I always find the comments humurous. A lot of nerd raging at it's best But one thing that strikes me, is nowhere, on any other forums, message boards, etc that I go to is Blackberry even mentioned. WinMo is seen as more of a contender to the average tech nerd, even with such a small percentage of market share.
And only 6% of buyers bought BB's in the last 3 months? Ouch..

What is a nice take away from this is that RIM still managed to sell devices to 6% of buyers in the last 3 months in the USA, where RIM is having the hardest time to move devices 6% of users still purchased.
Oct/Nov/Dec being usually slow months for Corporate purchases that is some what positive for RIM, the hope is that they can retain that 6% of the purchasers or better it in the following 3 months.
With no new devices by Apple, or RIM expected in the next 3 months, it wont be about the inflated hype and purchases that was caused for the Christmas rush

Is this actually news to anyone? Does anybody realize, considering how rapidly overall smart phone sales are growing, what kind of a sales increase RIM would need just to hold the same market share as last quarter? smh

RIM doesn't really have a chance in maintaining their Marketshare in the US.
For RIM to maintain or grow their market share they would need to see Double digit growth in unit sales quarter over quarter, and without new device launches that isn't going to happen,
RIM's only hope is to have a positive growth rate in the US, which will result in a net loss of marketshare, but increase their numbers to make an ecosystem more attractive to be a part of.
The question that we can't find the answer to is WAS that 6% of buyers buying RIM phones a Positive growth in the US, or did that result in a net decline of subscribers.

RIM's marketing effort on BB7 seemed to be scaled back last fall, and I can't imagine that helped sales at all. I don't know how much the bad press influenced consumers outside of the "tech-enthusiast" (basically, us) group, but I can't imagine it helped any, either.
As you and others have asked here, is this just RIM's userbase expanding, but not keeping pace with the smartphone market at large? Or is it an actual loss of customers as well as share?

RIM should just have one commercial during the superbowl showing off all 3 form factors. The qwerty phone, the slider, and the all touch.
A lot of people don't even know about the new devices. When they think of Blackberries. They still think of Bold 9700s.

WinMo is all the Microsoft (.NET) followers and enthusiast.
The Blackberry developers are usually Android developers too (Java).
I am a .NET developer. Microsoft tools are known as the most developer friendly. Blackberry is now getting there.... slowly.

Phone devices, Apple most likely will announce, and maybe release an iPad 3 in the next 3 months, RIM announce / Launch a Cellular equipped PlayBook in the next 6 months,
They don't play into the Neilson poll figures
