BlackBerry Z10 sold out? 'We've got loads left,' say retailers
Mobile retailers in the UK have contradicted Thorsten Heins' claims that supplies of the white BlackBerry Z10 handset have already sold out, saying they have plenty of the BB10 handset in stock.
The BlackBerry CEO came out all guns blazing earlier this week, saying the first BB10 handset had sold "beyond expectations" in the UK during the first few days of sale.
In an interview, Heins asserted: "White is sold out already. The black is hard to stock up again. It's very encouraging." Sounds great. There's only one problem. It hasn't and it isn't.
News outlets in the UK, perhaps a little surprised that BB10 was off to such a seemingly-unlikely whirlwind start, began calling around retailers to see if Heins' claim held water. Sadly, for Blackberry, it doesn't.
Loads left
Mobile News called Phones 4U's customer service line and two stores in Manchester and Leeds. All of which informed the site that the handset was in stock.
Devices were ready for immediate collection, despite Heins boasting that the device was already unavailable, while another store claimed to have 'loads left'.
The Telegraph also contacted Phones 4U - the exclusive supplier of the white Z10 in the UK - outlets in London, who also had 'plenty' of handsets available to anyone who wanted one.
Best ever performance?
In further comments to the media made on Wednesday, Heins claimed that the Z10 had tripled the performance of any BlackBerry smartphone ever in the UK, during a first week on sale.
While that may or may not be true (and it's difficult to tell), sold out it is not.
BlackBerry is yet to officially comment on the reports, but this apparent spread of misinformation (or perhaps it's just a case of crossed wires?) by its supposedly pragmatic leader will come as an embarrassment.Phones:Nokia 5110>Nokia 3360>Siemens C56>Moto RAZR>LG Chocolate>Pearl 8100>Bold 9000 > Bold 9900 >Z10 > Aristo

So techradar is basically saying if the sales are three times their highest sales in UK ever, it cant be true because some stores still have devices in stock so Thorsten must be lying. Yeah okay.

One thing to bear in mind with phone stores is that they are not going to admit to being sold out, they would rather keep quiet, get you in the shop and then try to sell you something else when the one you want is not available.

The UK press, like most of the world, seem to actively seek out bad news relating to BlackBerry (this story is borderline made up news). Part of this is just the old "bad news" sells papers idea, but I can't help feeling certain tech journalists may not be as impartial as they should be. Sometimes it seems impossible to put a negative spin on a good BB story, but they manage it somehow.

I was about to say the same thing, that one thing is to call, and the other is to get into the store, it has happened to me before, that i call, they claim to have it in stock, i go there, and they either try to sell me something else, or just put me in some waiting list, saying that by the time i called, they had stock, but unfortunately they were out of stock at the moment.

Engadget, though it provided no time frame for when Jelly Bean might arrive.
Jelly Bean apps on the Z10
BlackBerry Z10 owners will certainly benefit from an update Android runtime environment, as it ushers more up-to-date Android apps through a shortcut onto the BlackBerry 10 platform.
As of Monday, it seemed the BB Z10 could be released in the U.S. on March 27, though the BB10 flagship is already available elsewhere. And, from the looks of it, the phone is selling quite well

If the Z10 is not selling in the UK, then why has Phones4u added £70 to the price of the black model on their website?

eports suggesting that BlackBerry could have exaggerated levels of demand for its latest smartphone are unfounded, a statement from one of the UK’s largest handset retailers claims.
Earlier this week, The Telegraph and Mobile News contacted Phones 4U branches to verify BlackBerry CEO Thorstein Heins’ statement that unexpectedly high demand for the Z10 meant the white edition sold out at UK retailers within days, while the black model was in very short supply.
Instead of corroborating Heins’ claims, however, staff at stores appeared to pour cold water on them, revealing that both Z10 colour options were in plentiful supply. That led to suggestions that Heins may have talked up demand in a bid to garner column inches.
Seemingly in response to the reports, Phones 4U has issued a press release stating that in fact the Z10 has enjoyed an “exceptional response” in its stores and was indeed out of stock for a limited period.
