Default Police Intercept BlackBerry messages??

Police in Montreal claim to have intercepted 'texts' that allowed them to arrest the guys who recently killed mobster Salvatore Montagna. Nobody I know calls BBM messages "texts", but they seem to be claiming that they have been able to intercept them like they are talking about BBM.

Decrypted text messages point to mob killing: Crown - Canada - Canoe.ca

If LE want to get a hold of BBM communications, they can. I have never doubted that.

They were probably just texting, not using bbm. Regular texts are not secure.

BBM is no more secure from LEs with valid reasons.

Only if you choose not to use encryption software. Always presume someone is listening because the government and their minions are listening to you right now.

The USPATRIOT Act removes the valid reason requirement quite handily. Other governments are salivating at the thought of passage of similar legislation in their own countries.

All the need Is a warrent and they can get bbm messages, and I'm sure that's what happened in this case. I'm sure RIM would help local governement/police anytime

Warrants permit access, that's what the police need. If they do it without a warrant, it would be considered illegal.

Apparently the National Defence Authorization Act has been approved and anybody, even a kid or baby, is considered a terrorist if falsely accused, or even jokes about it.

Yea, I guess those terrorists hate me and want to kill me because of my "way of life," my "freedom."
