Default PlayBook in new 2013 Dodge Dart?

The new 2013 Dodge Dart was just unveiled.

This is the 2013 Dodge Dart [w/video] [UPDATE]

I'm not a huge fan of their cars, but this one looks like a nice step in the right direction. What interested me was the tablet shown in the glove compartment. I'd imagine, it's just a compartment for any ol' tablet, but it did have a striking resemblance to something we've seen..

Don't think it is a PlayBook. The volume and power button are missing from the image

I saw this too. Don't think it's a PB though unfortunatly, just a generic tablet. Also I don't think they're implying it comes with the car.

What I would love to see is a car come with a PB in the dash that you can pop out and take with you. So the gps and extra hardware would be attached to the car, but use the PB screen.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure that's an iPad. I suspect a little 'shopping to deliberately obscure exactly which device it is.

Cool that it has a dedicated tablet/netbook space, though.

That's one of those gee-whiz ideas that sounds awesome, and it's been done on a fair number of concept cars in the past couple of years.

There's a big problem with it, though: what if it gets lost/broken/stolen? Or even just borrowed by a family member? You're suddenly losing a chunk of your car's functionality. And leaving a big, blank hole in the dash.

Now, I think Nokia has shown off a cool idea that's something along the lines of having a dock for the phone inside the console, but it turns the car's built-in dash screen into essentially a big mirror of the device's. THAT might work.

Looks cool to me, but also that looks like an iPad, maybe tweaked a little bit.

I thought I saw somewhere that the new CUE (Cadillac User Experience) was powered by QNX!!! I don't know whether or not it will be similar to Playbook but I imagine tjwy will be comparable.

I can't find a source to confirm that directly, but QNX has worked extensively with GM in the past, so that would make some sense.

The CUE interface looks completely AWESOME.

More than likely an iPad as "the glovebox is big enough to fit an iPad" connected to one of two available aux jacks (see article below):

2013 Dodge Dart glove box big enough for an Apple iPad

So the PB would have lots of room to fit.

BTW, the Hyundai Equus provides the owner's manual on an iPad instead of paper. I am not convinced this is a great idea considering it needs power and IME I don't think I have pulled out the owner's manual once in the ten years I have owned my car.

Actually, the Equus thing wasn't a bad idea, in its way. Hyundai didn't just throw a big PDF into the iPad, they built a bunch of tutorials into their app so new owners wouldn't just see illustrations of all the features, but animated demos as well. And, yes Hyundai supplied the paper manual, but it was apparently something the size of a phone book.

That was just for the introductory year, though. This year they don't throw the iPad in, just the app.

The playbook would make for an excellent companion device for any vehicle.

Thanks for the clarification. That does sound reasonable.
