Yea I don't care so much for me, I could always get the Beta if I wanted, but I really want this update for my mom. She is a big fan of "Word Hero" & plays it all the time on her PB. The problem is that it's not completely stable & sometimes crashes. I'm hoping OS 2.1 will fix that with it's Android Player improvements.

I would have Bridge 2.1 on my phone right now if it was coming tomorrow, unless they are pushing both updates out at the same time.
- 09-30-2012, 03:32 PM #5

I find this whole guess and wait process entertaining. Truth be known though, I am completely happy with 2.1.0.840 except for the lack of bridged texting. I am one of those rare birds for whom the playbook is the perfect tablet and I got it for just over two hundred bucks.Thanked by 4:costas1966 (10-01-2012), randomkidsrule (09-30-2012), Sager-Naji (09-30-2012), Toodeurep (10-01-2012)

android apps will be able to use the cameras and each android app will open in multiple windows, browser and other enhancements, also bridge will utilize bluetooth and wifi

And bridge Text...
I´m sexy and i know it! ("Music? What music?") - 09-30-2012, 03:56 PM #9
And if they push brigde and the OS at the same time, they´ll clog up the servers i guess...

i doubt it, i don't think the OS update goes through app world, even if it does it should be built for high enought traffic and the bridge update will likely be a few mbs so its rather small

I thought 2.1 was supposed to provide imap folder support for messages?

Can someone tell me how you determine which version of Bridge you have and why you need 2.1 to download the new OS?

Most of PB OS 2.1 updates are all on the enterprise side so the average person won't see half of the changes.
me too, I often turn it off...but that causes problems when I get to pages that need it
It's annoying turning it on & off all the time.
For features that interact with your Phone. For example we know that Bridged SMS is in 2.1 becuase it's in the beta, but people can't use it because Bridge 2.0 doesn't have SMS.
BTW people also watch for Bridge updates becuase they are usually followed by PB updates the next day

Good God I hope that's not it as far as the Android player goes... it's performance is *so* poor it might as well not even be included. How about multithreaded performance, decent rendering in the android web browser? I mean seriously, when simple newsreader apps like Flipboard and Pulse bring the PB to it's knees, something has been done terribly wrong (yet again from RIM)...
Cheers

I think we heard this same thing the week before last, then we heard during BB Jam..... Eventually someone who says "this week" will be correct. Also releases are usually on Tuesday or rare Thursday.

It always starts off with "my friend who works for RIM" and everyone on Crackberry freaks out. then the inevitable RIM bashing for another failed update...which isn't their fault. Why is it that only CB forums go crazy with these rumours? I know Berry Review posted this latest one, CB takes the cake with the update watch.
Its best to just let these threads die...
Updqte will come when it comes. - 09-30-2012, 07:56 PM #19
I'd go along with the idea that we'll have it Tuesday night (their typical launch window).
Trying to remember, weren't we supposed to have WiFi bridge with the 2.1 release too? That could be pretty cool. - 09-30-2012, 08:41 PM

True, but those are sideloaded Apps that someone converted the .APK file to .BAR We can't hold RIM responsible for sideloaded apps that have been hacked on. NOW if those apps were DL'd from the App Store I think people had a right to complain.
I may grumble that my Mazda 3 doesn't go from 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds, but I can't blame Mazda for that, they never built the car for that
.....It's RIM's fault that my car isn't faster!

BlackBerryOs track record of predicting updates is very bad. Maybe they confused a OS update with 2 free games from union
I waited...It launched...Im still waiting...

I predict that there will be a lot of threads Monday and Tuesday raging about how awful RIM is for delaying 2.1 because a source other than RIM said it would be released.
OR, there will be a lot of threads Monday and Tuesday raging about how awful RIM is for taking this long and that it doesn't have exciting extra features that was never mentioned by RIM.

The Android player under 2.1 is only different from 2.0 in the GUI sense. The underlying implementation is the same. The runtime already multitasks Android apps, as evidenced by the multitasking bar at the bottom of the screen that shows the six most recent apps. Under 2.1 the end user now sees the app in a window like native apps. However when we swipe up to go to the carousel view, the app is suspended and a screenshot of its last state is used as a placeholder in the window. You will notice that when you switch to another Android app there is often a ghosting effect before the new app begins running.
Now with regards the the runtime itself, performance can be improved hopefully. It functions reasonably well most of the time. At least with 2.1, if it hangs we do not need to restart or restart to RAM overload. My PB is far more functional with it than without, especially for productivity apps like Evernote and PDF editing. - 09-30-2012, 11:24 PM #25
I was watching and the RIM guy said at 10:51 "So when Playbook 2.1 came out". Thought I had missed the news somehow. Hope it comes tomorrow!

.Though it makes sense that PB OS 3 would be BB10
