Owner of BBx trademark takes legal action against RIM

Perhaps checking to see if a product name has already been trademarked would be a good idea prior to announcing it to the world. BBX is a registered trademark of Basis International, below is link to the press release indicating legal action against RIM.

Yeah, that's what this lawsuit is all about. RIM using their trademark is probably the best thing that ever happened to that company.

Just use the trademark and give the company employees free playbooks and call it a day. Lol

I don't think a bag of money is sufficient, the use of BBX is the issue, so RIM (like Cisco) will have to change the name or pay royalties plus major penalties for every time BBX is mentioned.

RIM not even release the S**id BBX yet , just announce it. RIM know they not going to release early next year so they have a lots of time to come up with a new name.

So... You're telling me that Steve Jobs should have been fired from Apple because he used the iPhone and iOS names? They were both trademarked by another company as well - Cisco. While iPhone wasn't a major product for Cisco, iOS is the name of the OS that runs on their business class networking gear. You can actually say that the internet wouldn't run without iOS because it powers most of the routers and switches that handle the internet's traffic.

There was the recent iCloud usage as well, Apple must muscled the smaller company "iCloud Communications" to change their name. This kind of law suit is very common.

Leaving it named QNX wouldnt have hurt a thing. Maybe they should have spent more time on polishing OS 2.0 and delivering the promised features than trying to come up with cute new names for an OS that already had an adequate name.

I love how somehow the focus immediately gets shifted to Apple.

"What, RIM screwed up?!? Well, Apple did it too!"

Then the second anyone with a differing opinion steps in they're reminded that this is a BB forum. Go figure...
