"Credibility" is crucial for RIM to make this a successful launch. The biggest takeaway: RIM is back in the business of actually MEETING targets--something they couldn't seem to do even when their corporate life depended on it back in 2011.

EDIT: There's another big takeaway from this announcement, and that is that there are that many carriers who are actually interested in SELLING BB10!

Can someone shed some light on what carrier testing accomplishes, beyond ensuring it works on their network? Because that seems like it shouldn't take nearly 2 months.

Yes, I was going to say this. I have no personal knowledge of the process, but I have heard it CAN sometimes take up to 3 months. 6 months? wow.

So far, there are 50 carriers. I'm assuming RIM will try to have it done closer to 2 in an attempt to launch in mid-end January. Whatever the carriers are, I'll go with they're all in the first wave launch markets.

Blackberry devices in the past varied in their testing phase. The Bold 9000 fiasco with AT&T is an example but even still, BB10 is new and improved. I'm sure the new devices have been in the labs before they made this announcement.

Hopefully the carriers in Malaysia are not forgotten... Have saved up for this and will splurge all of it when the BB10 is officially available in Malaysia.
