by that article you would think the guy has something personal against rim.

trying to speculate on the stock dropping when its jumping again.

ever heard of manifest destiny? you be negative and bleak about something and its going to be negative and bleak. perception is everything.

Was this guy standing at the booth the whole time taking statistics? How was it compared to the overall conference? Were the numbers generally low? Did the flow change or pick up over time?

It'd be nice to get some input from other people there as well.. Kevin or anyone on the crackberry team there like to answer?

I would like to see people's opinion regarding the innovations showed off by RIM rather than the same opinions about RIM dying. So maybe RIM dies this year, but what about the innovations showcased here. No one talks about that. Wether they like it or hate it. Nthing on that end, just the same old RIM is dead.

Why are they so bothered about stock price? Are they tech reporters or wall street analysts?

Forget the wall street reports, what I want to read from tech reporters is what they felt about the innovations showcased by RIM. Let the street handle the economics of it, they should report on technology.

This Thompson guy is probably just upset that Crackberry Kevin didn't put him in one of his videos.

I think this is understandable given the lack of new product launchs, at least the PB OS 2.0 demo generated positive responses.

To get tech people excited, you would need to show them something uniquely innovative that they've never seen before. Not just something new for your platform, that is only going to excite fans of your platform and owners of your devices - or future devices.

CES shows that RIM is moving in the right direction, and that the PlayBook "looks" to have some strong potential and that should bode well for the new BB10 Phones.

But don't expect tech writers or analyst to get very excited about any of what RIM is doing right now. The current PlayBook is old news (very little of it being good) and with no new phone hardware and a bad track record, RIM is going to have to really work to get any positive PR.

Although OS 2, as demoed, is not and will not be a game changer it is a step in the right direction...

What I find strange is the doom mongering from these tech blogs with no end in sight and the constant rehashing of old news just to get a few page hits. Yes we know RIM has had struggles with their transition (that is pretty apparent) over the past year but if this demo is anything to go by then BB10 devices will have solid platform to launch from and then it doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of things if the PlayBook was/is a failure because RIM's core business was and always will be mobile phones.

Btw, I find it strange that the Video Store wasn't demoed as this is part of RIM's problem in that they need content. Can anybody familiar with Rovi expand on their level of service and reach as far as content is concerned? Also wouldn't it be better for them to combine both their music and video offerings into one centralised service requiring only your BlackBerry I'd?

I'm not suggesting that they be "excited". Anything would do. Love it or hate it. But talk about the features.

These tech reporters have zero experience as far as trading and commerce is concerned. Let them be confined to their area of expertise and report on that. If I want advice on investment I will talk to my broker.

Why is it that they completely ignore the tech side of RIM and report on user base etc. That is not their area of expertise.

Apple gets a new fart app and they are gaga about it. RIM shows a way for a phone to control the tablet over bluetooth and they talk about declining market share and stock price. Just give their opinion about it. Do they like it or find it useless etc. Anything besides declining share price. They know as much about share price fluctuations as a pig farmer in Africa.

BB needed to release a new innovative phone at CES to grab the media attention. Software update to a year old tablet and a flagship phone that still has a keyboard and 8330 styling is just not going to cut it.

The whole thing is summarized at the end:

"Mr. Thompson maintained an “underperform” rating on RIM and an $8 (U.S.) price target."

Gee he wouldn't be trying to cover his short position now would he?

I think this is an indication of them doing well. Since CES I've notice a big upswing in anti BB content on here. When your threatened by something you attack it. Why anyone is threaten is beyond me, other than money spent on advertising (see Apple). I keep hearing about RIM needs to put out something new and innovative. Who is putting something out new and innovative? The Iphone seems like the same than over and over with gadgety stuff add (siri, Icloud?). Finally, I don't see the WP being attack. I don't think anyone feels that they are any kind of threat.
