Lightbulb Jon Rubinstein Leaves HP. Should RIM Hire him?

So Jon Rubinstein has quite at HP. This is no big surprise as they have basically dropped their Palm/WebOS dept. Despite the fact that WebOS was a failure, I don't think you can blame him for that.

Rubinstein use to work at Apple & was responsible for the creation of the iPod. He then left in 2007 to go work for Palm. At Palm he created a new operating system called WebOS. Unfortunately, it was too lil too late & they got taken over by HP, who then destroyed them with bad management decisions.

So what do you guys think? a Great guy to add to the RIM Team?
NOT as a CMO (not his speciality)

Don't see how it could hurt. He might even be a good guy to anchor RIM in Silicon Valley.

Was he in interface or kernal-level?

If he was in interface then hire him right now!

Are you kidding me. He couldn't even make WebOS work with the kind of money HP threw at it. The Pre was one of the worst phones hardware wise that I know of. No.

But the Pre was created prior to HP. When Palm had no money to put into it. Nothing that HP put together with WebOS gave any indication they were serious. Except maybe seriously clueless about the phone market. I think they saw an opportunity to best Michael Dell at doing a phone, then discovered they had no idea what to do. HP bought a resource that they then wasted.

The first thing he did at HP was to create the Pre 2. It looked exactly the same and didn't have a chance at grabbing anything else but a loyal WebOS following. No one looked seriously at the phone itself they only followed the OS it was running.

Jon Rubinstein's career has crash landed harder than a hydrogen-filled zeppelin. Apple->Palm->HP.

Poster child for career guidance counselors,"Kids don't follow in Jon's footsteps to irrelevance."

It's a bad idea to bring Rubinstein into RIM why?
His image has been tarnished with selling WebOS to HP after failure of the Palm Pre and Pre2, then HP canceling webOS devices and selling WebOS was another hit to his image.

So no, hiring Rubinstein to the eyes of the world would be like RIM couldn't find anyone better to run whatever business.

WebOS was too lil too late for Palm. in the short time he was at Palm he changed it around considerably...however it was already too late & they had no $$$ to put into the great new OS that they had created. So then he sold to HP expecting them to put resources into it, instead they didn't do anything. In the 18months that he was @ HP, HP went through 4 CEOS, each one had a different idea for WebOS, it was doomed to fail & there was nothing anyone could have done about it in his shoes.

BTW - Steve Jobs liked him. He was one of the first people Steve had Apple Hire, even B4 he was officially reinstated as CEO.....Job's only complaint with him was that he was "solf" he felt that he cared about his co-workers too much & that was not a good thing, as steve felt you should be able to easily fire anyone, if it was profitable to do so.

Default South Bound Trains

In 2007 a train leaves the station traveling toward the great treasure in the north and gathers speed until it is heading south. HP Pacific lays track and tries to head the train to the north. The track Masters are fired and finally the south bound train derails. RIM Pacific traveling toward the same goal going south slows down to rescue the conductor of the derailled train and continues on it's journey.

Question: Which direction is the RIM Pacific train travelling?

and

Question: How long until either train arrives in the North?

hint: the answer is NOT 12/21/2012
