Great, thanks for this.
They're working hard to get developers on BB10
A third party will review apps coming into App World...great idea

imo, he really wanted to say skype...former Microsoft guy...you know its coming, its just a matter of when. I think it would be smart to have it ready at launch of bb10.

i think a lot of apps will arrive when bb10 arrive...
i think devs were waiting for cascades so they can make the best possible ui.
back to the video, he sounds like a great person. He's definitely the right personality for his type of job. If you're reading this Alec, great work! Keep it up. - 05-05-2012, 09:03 AM #5
Good video. Little annoying with the ambient sound though.

This guy is genius. It is about time that people realize there is no way to hit iOS from where they are right now. People seem to NOT realize that devs are actually FLOCKING to BB10, as shown by the numbers.
I think Alec made it perfectly clear that if BB10 beats out Android it is automatically the second best platform, and with a lot of people buying non-iOS devices that means that they would be looking towards BB10 not android.
The fragmentation is something that started as a problem for android and was never dealt with. RIM has been dealing with their problems (however slow) and you can see that, if it does get into the situation that Alec mentioned , many devs may say 'lets port to BB10' before even thinking of doing the same for Android.
I think a major shift is coming!------------------------> LIST OF WORKING Android Apps for Z10/BB10 ---190 SO FAR!!! <------------------------

"Android is a chaotic cesspool of crap"
BAHAHA!
Well said Alec, well said...
IT'S FINALLY HERE!

With the new WebWorks and Cascades for Native development, iOS UIKit no longer holds the crown for fast mobile development. The restrictions with the way background processes can behave under iOS are what push me over to PB development. I don't know how many iFans would admit that iOS "multitasking" sucks.

Saunders is taking shots at Android
. "Fragmented Cesspool of Cr@p".
Good strategy. He's not taking on iOS at the moment. Providing BB10 as the second platform for developers.
And another thing, the guy to his right...he was using an IPAD??? Imagine someone sitting next to Steve Jobs using an Android Tablet to take notes. Jobs would have broken the tab on the guys head. That's what I loved about Steve Jobs. He wouldn't take this kind of disrespect.Through the Years :2001 Ericsson T29s> Sony Z5> Sony Z7> SE Z600>Moto A760> RAZR V3>Razr V3i>BB 8800>BB 9500
>BB 9800>Bold 9900..RIM Returns with a bang

What I like about Alec he has courage to face any kind of questions/situation and he had literally broke open the mighty wall between the mighty RIM and the quintessential mom and pop developer, what surprises me he is a god damn VP and still approachable to every one, how many VP's you know are approachable to the employees let alone no name developers. Also I think because of Alec people became aware of how much the BB developers are profitable compared to other platforms. IMO he is telling the story that need to be told. Good job! Alec
Hats off to Dan Dodge and Mike L for recognizing and bringing Alec on-board to lead dev relations and I can't think no-one who could have done a better job than Alec.Last edited by sf49ers; 05-05-2012 at 05:11 PM.

Go read Alec's personal blog and he has some really good insights on RIM and other mobile companies (most posts were done before he joined RIM) but interesting read nonetheless...

I absolutely love his disdain for the Android App Market. I occasionally look at my friend's Evo and see all the apps in App Market. Aside from the usual quality apps, it's an absolute junkyard. I'd hate to have App World get like that. It was annoying when those e-books were flooding App World, but I don't see them as much anymore.
From this interview, I can tell Alec knows exactly what the BlackBerry community wants. I am so glad that he is a personable guy, because sometimes it's just "people skills" and developing relationships with people to get them to do what you want. In this case, I could think of no better type of person to be out there courting developers for RIM.Sean
