I saw the Dell phones tonight on Engadget... then I remembered the failed leak of the JitterBerry clamshell. lol No contest.

The phone that I would be most interested in is the hybrid, bold sized device. I don't think they will unveil anything crazy like the phones that HTC and everyone are releasing.

they did... Until images of the all mighty clam shell "thing" leaked now their top secret project is out in the open

04-21-2010, 08:53 PM #6Who cares which device is better? Isn't all that matters is that it's the best one for you? - 04-21-2010, 08:57 PM

The next 6 months will be crazy if you are in the market for a smartphone. I think RIM will realize that the market will be really crowded with a lot of mid to high end phones and you can only tout "push email" for so long.
I never buy the argument of and company having a cheap smartphones in the US. If it requires a $30 data plan, it is not cheap. The HTC incredible (and probably EVO) is coming out at $200 so price will not be a major factor. - 04-21-2010, 08:59 PM #9
Dell did come out of nowhere with tonight's news... Good for them... Of course they started with Mini 5 abomination... Remember the jokes about that one... So maaaaaayyyybe there's hope for RIM at WES next week... The flip is (I HOPE) a decoy

The Curve is a full QWERTY with a bigger screen and you can get em for free now. I would see no reason to keep the Pearl unless you just want a smaller and lighter phone without a full QWERTY. Honestly, I never cared for the Pearl.
The Bold, Curve, and Storm are just fine. - 04-21-2010, 09:16 PM #13
There are a lot of people who love their pearls though

My point exactly...

i knew dell was making a couple devices (tablet and a android phone) i was kinda interested in them too. today was good eye candy indeed. the thunder and the tablet both look very sexy and hopefully they bring something new a good to the market in the fall

And that means less for everybody. Honesty, look at the Camry, the best selling sedan in the mid-size family market, not exactly at the leading edge of anything, yet they have managed to wrack up an impressive sales record.
A phone doesn't have to be fastest, have the biggest screen or the fastest processor to give the consumer what they want. If you don't like a Toyota, there is enough competition...get a Honda, or Subaru or Hyundai. If you don't like RIM get something else.
Meh, I'm staying with my S2, until another manufacturer figures out to give me the ability to handle my work in an easy to use form without customizing via ROM, then I'll switch. My phone has to work the way I need it to and just work. They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

... and why the new Pearl will be a great selling device. I'll be first in line.
That phone from Dell looks incredible and quite frankly came as a surprise to
me. I haven't thought of Dell in terms of cellular in ages but it looks like they
hit one out of the park. - 04-21-2010, 10:46 PM #19
Yeh but that was when the Pearl was the Pearl and the phones like the 8830 and a little older were bricks.
The new phones like the 9700 arent all that much bigger or heavier than a Pearl.
9700 109 x 60 x 14.2 mm
Pearl 107 x 50 x 14 mm
8520 109 x 60 x 13.7 mm
There's really negligible size difference these days, just a tiny bit wider, a whole 10mm/.4 inches.
I mean lets be real people get those kind of phones like the Pearl, not all the time, but mostly because they were freebies and dont want to spend $300 on a 9700. There really wasnt a high and low/consumer end BB device when the Pearl came out, but I really dont see why to continue the model. Phones like the 8520 and such are just as good, probably better, and just as cheap these daysLast edited by stuaw11; 04-21-2010 at 10:54 PM.

Some people also want the SureType keyboard. Others may want the portrait view. But really, why are we picking on the Pearl all of a sudden? Just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean they shouldn't sell it.

Im not going to lie it is a bit of an embarrassment for any die-hard Blackberry fan to see this Clamshell thing leak compared to the new iPhone and Dell device. But hey there is a RIM Tablet apparently in the works so maybe that has some sick Godly OS on it, or maybe its a new surepress clamshell tablet mix how does that sounds guys

While I agree with 95% of this analysis I have to disagree about WHY people
buy the Pearl.
There are 100s of 1000s of us who like and will always want the Pearl because
of it's form factor (I have made the size difference argument also and it
almost always fell on deaf ears), SureType and what I, at least consider
the absolute best keyboard on any BB. I could literally type in excess of 100+
words per minute on the 8100. The new Pearl is the only upcoming BB I have
any interest in. I can assure I am not alone, and cost is not even in the
equation as far as I am concerned. - 04-22-2010, 03:28 AM #23
Yes!!!! That Thunder stopped me dead...it looks gorgeous...this may be the device that turns my head and rocks my world this year.
Dell...who knew?!?! Will wait for that and not get the 4G when that releases, just so I can compare the two. I think the Thunder will knock my socks off.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup
Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????

Wow WPM in excess of 100? I wanna video of this!
- 04-22-2010, 06:16 AM #25
Me too! This is all I could find! That screen is so gorgeous...and it has all I want...including Flash?!?!?!?!??!?!? I just died..
I haven't been crazy about Android, but I'm not closed to revisiting it, especially with that screen.
The 4G is taking third place in my interest this summer....
So I'm excited about 6.0, the clamshell nobody likes, the slider, the Thunder, and the 4G.Last edited by Qbnkelt; 04-22-2010 at 06:19 AM.
