Ah, as much as I like Canadians I still cannot understand this Bieber phenomenon... Am I getting old? Is it possible to make HIM pay for appearing in BlackBerry commercials?

RIM can't use Bieber. Not RIM's fault, not Bieber's fault.

Justin Bieber is a very polarizing figure. He's a talented kid (who's incredibly well-grounded for his age, btw), but soooo many people actively dislike him that you run the risk of turning off a considerable number of potential customers.

Lady Gaga? Goofy, yes, and I don't know that she commands a ton of respect, exactly, but she doesn't elicit the kind of strong, visceral dislike I've seen from many people just at the mention of Bieber's name. Same goes for Nicki Manaj; she could probably be used in some way.

Bieber might be able to drop the odd tweet, and if RIM could convince him to use a BB10 phone his fans would notice and it would be decent publicity, but if RIM retained him in some kind of active marketing spokesman role it could drive a lot of people away.
