From North Carolina to MA, state and county governments, to help First Responders, are requesting that people use test messages or email to keep friends and family informed about how they are doing. It is also requested that, if possible, they connect their phone(s) to their home (or hotel's) wireless network. These will help reduce the load on the cell phone towers for 911 calls and First Responder communications. Emergency calls only on your cell phones if you are in the path of Hurricane Irene please, this is very important!
