Heins nominated for CEO of the Year
Thorsten Heins is nominated for Cantech's Letter 2012 TSX Tech Executive of the Year. He's currently leading with over 80 percent of the reader vote. The actual winner is chosen by a panel of judges. However, the reader vote counts as one of these votes. Here's the link:
2012 Cantech Letter Awards: The TSX Tech Exec of the Year Finalists
"Heins was nominated for his efforts to turn RIM around since he taking over as CEO of the BlackBerry maker in January. “He endured more doubt and scrutiny and outright ridicule than any rookie CEO should have to suffer,” the Cantech Letter nomination says.
But he “plodded on,” and with the release of the new BlackBerry 10 platform just over a month away, “critics seem to be understanding that Heins is no shrinking violet,” the nomination says."Last edited by Tinomane; 12-25-2012 at 09:23 AM. Reason: Title should have said Tech CEO

So cool!!! I put in my vote, and it looks like he's winning by a landslide. He deserves the win.

Nice. I voted for Thor. However, I'd like to reserve the right to change that vote in the event he does the unthinkable and sells the company.

To take a company from the brink of a major downhill slide amd breathe new life into it isn't for the faint of heart. It has taken a big brass pair to stand against the tide and start walking towards the light.

Heins nominated for CEO of the Year
Vote logged. Excellent choice, not to detract from the competition. He is a compelling and intelligent individual bent not on building "the next big thing" but a framework for the mobile computing future. He is building a garden and giving developers the tools to grow their dreams.
He is a visionary. Exactly what this company needed to achieve their goals.

Oh you guys are like mindless high school cheerleaders. If Thorsten urinated and put out a forest fire you'd probably cheer and get all giddy. Wait until we see whether BlackBerry 10 proves itself and the new revenue model comes on-stream. Optimism is fine, fanaticism is irrational and just a cult of personality. For crying out loud given the overzealousness of your cheerleading you'd think Thorsten Heins was on the same level as Nelson Mandela. There are many factors which could adversely affect Research In Motion; the dangerous waters still lay ahead.

The brink of a major downhill slide? Research In Motion was at the point of careening off the mountainside at the time Thorsten Heins was appointed Chief Executive Officer. And let's not forget he was Chief Operating Officer during much of the downhill slide. The next two quarters will determine whether he has accomplished anything of value of the millions of BlackBerry users around the globe. Until then stop sitting on your haunches, tongue hanging out eager to lick the "big brass pair" of your idol and master.

You obviously don't understand how difficult it is to do ANY kind of turnaround that quickly, yes, I said quickly because for the circumstances, he did an incredible job. I agree that BB10 will still have to be seen for the full effect of the immediate turnaround, but where we are now is impressive in and of itself. Being a CEO is harder than people give credit too. Seeing as 95% of the general population wouldn't know how to manage much more than the local bakery, I don't think many have room to talk...

Heins nominated for CEO of the Year
It took Steve Jobs 5 years to turn Apple around.
So far Thor is on track to do it in 1. - 12-28-2012, 06:28 PM #18

Thorsten Heins should be deified if BB10 smartphones/software is upto its brilliant anticipated level. I love my 9800 and 9860 but the market demands a major up grade if BlackBerry is to regain its rightful place as a major player in the smartphone arena.
