Default Giga OM predicts: Research In Motion will no longer exist as we know it today.

Another bad prediction for RIM. I can't wait for all of these guys to be proven wrong.

Research In Motion will no longer exist as we know it today. I’d like to be wrong on this, as competition is good for all, but RIM’s missteps and late reactions to competition finally exact a toll: By year-end, I suspect the company will be purchased, mainly for its patents, or will refocus as a services-oriented entity.

The reason so many predict it is because it is easy to see. Apple and Android won the battle. RIM gave too little too late. OS 10 will not succeed and will only be popular with the most loyal of users. The rest will or already have moved on.

I love my BB. Everything is great... but I'm really starting to get tired of getting left in the cold. It's REALLY starting to wear on me. Where's my Bank app? My buddy can deposit his check into USAA anywhere in the world from his app... Why don't I have a BB app for this? It's a simple use of a camera...

Yup, well....I predict that I will continue to love my BB best above all else because it simply works best for me. I will buy an Atrix 2 because I do love my Atrix but I predict that I will not purchase an iPhone unless they give the ability to change themes and let me replace my own battery. I also predict I will not purchase an iPad.
I predict that I will be one of the early adopters the day BB10 phones are released.
Finally, I predict that I will use BBerries until the brand ceases to exist.

^^ Funny Palmless, same can be said about Palm and webOS. Fully agree with OP. Someone will take a run at RIM in 2012. Question is for how much? Brothers RIM will fight tooth and nail though. We shall see....

Don't listen to the trolls. It seems like we have a 'new batch' since the pb has proven to be quite popular at $200 for the 16GB

If OS2 is a great upgrade and BB10 phones turn-out to be really good RIM will be on the road to success

I like my BlackBerry too. But BlackBerry now isn't a smartphone. It's a great messaging machine. IPhone and Android are smartphones. So it depends on what you need. Right now, I use my laptop for everything and my BlackBerry for email and messaging.

If I want to do that plus videos and more, I'd get Android or iPhone.

There's a trade off for all though, and RIM def is not meant for the same uses as the smartphones.

The HP TouchPad was also quite popular at it's $100 price point. But we know how that turned out..

That wasn't an insult to BlackBerry. It's just what it is. I went back to BlackBerry when I got a laptop because I figured I wanted a great messaging device and I'd do all my media on the laptop.

I don't think even BlackBerry fanboys would deny other platforms are way better at media functions. The other platforms have great messaging too, but the media and screens also use a lot of battery.

I don't think they would deny that for the most part either. What they will have a problem with is you saying it isn't a smartphone. IMO it is a smartphone. It is a smartphone that specializes in messaging. I can see the fanboys making an even bigger argument.

My 9800 has the media functions the other phones have, I can easily play music and it sounds good, the camera is very good (compared to other phones), I have movies on my phone...and the 9810 is better

..and now we have the pb to take the portable experience to another level

And in my opinion, smartphones aren't smart

Hmmm. The browser on my 9900 is great. It plays music just as good as an ipod and syncs with my itunes. Google Maps and Poynt help me find things. I don't know about movies because I would never watch a movie on a 4" screen because its too tiny (watch my kids holding ipod touch screens while watching videos and its too small)! OS2/10 will give BB users everything the others can do, but the others still won't have as efficient data usage for messaging when I travel overseas so Blackberry's smartphone implementation now and added features coming are smarter for my needs than the competition.
