BlackBerry Applies for Phone Patent with new kind of slider keyboard.
I'm not exactly sure how this concertina style keyboard slider design would work, but I do find it interesting all the same

I know there are people out there who swear by the BB Sliders
Could a concertina help BlackBerry take on the iPhone? Firm applies to patent 'shrinking' keyboard that could fold up when not in use

That is awesome!
Is this going to be full screen or half screen? Seems like an interesting concept to tie together with a full screen phone. - 02-11-2013, 03:08 PM #3
it looks like it would be the size of the Q10 when used, but smaller when not. I think that the idea SHOULD be that the phone is mostly screen, ie Z10, but can get a Q10 keyboard when needed. If it is only to hide the Q10 keyboard and make the Q10 smaller there really isnt a point.

I had a slide out keyboard on my Torch 9800 for nearly 2 years. It worked a treat. Now even better with my new Z10 though!
BlackBerry rules the world (or at least a small chunk of it anyway! Hehe!)

Id get a slider if truly felt next generation. The torch felt old school. It would need to feel like the Z10 in my hands.

I have a Torch still and love the sliding keyboard feature! You give me a z10 Torch and I am sold for it right now!!! It is quite useful to have the sliding keyboard. It adds a bit of thickness to the phone but it has been very comfortable for me. I guess it is just personal preference for each one but from what I ve seen around, the Torch has been quite a success?
The "concertina" keyboard does not really do it for me, I d prefer a Z10 or Q instead... unless a nice slider zStyle phone came upCommon logic was introduced in order to balance the absurdity of common perception, then we invented marketing and messed it all up again.

I found the torch to be very addicting. I would spend all day sliding it open & closed in my hand lol
....my complaints of the torch were BBOS 6 (always felt it that OS was underpowered) & the extra second it took to open the KB B4 I stated typing annoyed me....I loved the BOLD line & my 9900 is still a more efficient communicator then the Z10 (though missing all the BB10 greatness....I'm hoping the Q10 will be both)

Interesting, I'd have to try the final product to see how useful rotating keys would be. Myself I am among the people that love the 9810/00, and have no issues with the extra weight and thickness of a standard portrait slider. I'd buy a BB10 version in a heart beat to get the large screen of the Z10 with a slide out physical keyboard.

I haven't used a slider before. I'd like to see if the feel of the keyboard on this thing would be comparable to my old Bold 9000. I'm all touch with the 9860 for now (not by choice), but would be really tempted to get this instead of the Z10 if the keyboard feels as good or better. I wouldn't mind keeping the screen size of the Z10 and adding that keyboard to the bottom... best of both worlds!
