I like it! I'm definitely going to get one. However I prefer a keyboard, I'm not sure I can handle a touch keyboard no matter how intuitive it is.

I'd like to know why people are saying the phone is "nice looking" and "slick"...the pictures are mock ups, their NOT real lol
hence my previous statement, no internal pics from RIM, no other documentation to indicate ANY of these words are legit...vaporware until then.

I would have to test it out 1st. I am not to hype over a touchscreen, had one b/4..it is not worth all the hype.

At first I didn't want anything to do with this phone...but since I saw that rolling keyboard thing I am softening up. Plus this will make other BB's cheaper!

| | Blah!
First I have to say that I am happy that RIM is going to be adding this device to their line up to give them more money so they are that much more closer to world domination!! I do tho have to say that I am disappointed! I mean, REALLY? Thats not a BlackBerry! That looks like a version of a Iphone and that saddens me! Why change what BlackBerrys look like? I mean you couldn't make a touchscreen(if it in fact is a touchscreen) on a Curve? I just hate to see the design of BlackBerrys change so much! I will prolly get one once the CDMA carriers get it. It just makes me miss my 8703 more and more. I know that just because this is coming out that the 8800 series, Curve, and Pearl are not going to be "faded" out, but I just like that you can look at the BlackBerrys of now and know that they are BlackBerrys, VS the 9000 you have to double look to make sure its not a Iphone. Thank you for letting me vent! I'll shut up now and sit back and read the responses to my venting!

I am interested to see what the 9000 turns out to be. I gave up my iPhone for performance and build issues, that had nothing to do with the touchscreen and keypad...so, if BlackBerry can still be a rock-solid performer with and improved UI and touchscreen display...I am 100% a player.
But, the obviously photoshopped image displayed by BGR doesn't prove anything. It may look totally different in production.
I can't wait!! |

Wow, It looks awesome....Love the idea of a larger keyboard especially if it can sense which way you are holding it. Would still prefer the keyboard like my 8800 though.

I TOTALLY agree with you... I like the way blackberrys look because, regardless of the fine tuning that has brought us to the awsome Curve, you see a BB and you know it IS in fact a BB. I have an ipod touch and didn't even think about an iphone because I love my BB and the way it looks... well, enough of my venting now... Peace to all!!! |

As a BlackBerry user of all models and types as well as a well practiced user with touch screens I would have to say just a few things about this alleged design. As it has been mentioned many times before in this thread we have no credible information on whether this is an official design and I for one believe that this type of design or anything close to it's ilk would be a mistake for RIM to implement.
First off let us objectively look at a few reasons why the BlackBerry has gained a great deal of support and following.
1. The device just works (Boot up issues and thickness aside (8700 series)) it functions it's fast and built to be used then holstered after business is complete.
2. It's Operating System is tight and well engineered.
3. The hardware is well designed and maintains a homogeneous design amongst different models (keyboard, track/ball wheel, screen size*)
All of these items have made RIM what they are and is a surefire formula for success because of it's inherent design qualities and alter that design by just a minute amount would cause the new device to become a flop as BlackBerry users the world over are use to expecting continually refined devices, not drastic design changes to mimic the functions of a media phone (iPhone). BlackBerry users love their keyboard bound devices and enjoy the feel of Tactile Response which is the very reason I don't care to use it's Pocket PC brethren or the like due to the utter lack or poor quality of their keyboards. Devices such as the iPhone and HTC Touch lack tactile response and thus do not lend themselves very well as being business devices specifically engineered for email, but the BlackBerry has the very thing needed to hammer out that much needed IT Bulletin or Staff APB without the hassle of sliding out a keyboard or using a stylus/finger to type text.
All in all I firmly believe that this design won't be a production device for RIM (in it's current iteration) and in the case it is I don't necessarily see it being a huge success because a consumer can by a touch screen phone that has a 320x480 resolution right now that may be better suited for their needs. These "needs" of which I speak are things like media and browsing, but not typing an email. From just the mere speculation of a touch screen first keyboard later I surmise the following equation.
Tactile response + legacy of stable device = Success
BlackBerry - tactile response keyboard + touch screen = lukewarm response and much lower market numbers for this device.
I look forward to the official release of the device design, but until then I look forward to the stimulating responses this will receive. I appreciate your time in ready this rather verbose dialog and thank you for choosing CrackBerry.

Reason: Added caveat for screen size

RIM have been working on a new device under the code name Indie. It's a slicker more consumer orientated device with a bigger screen but no trackball. It DOES have a real keyboard at the bottom and looks nothing like either of the 2 mock ups that I have seen here and on BGR. the prototype was black.

I don't know what to say! I love change, and love new gadgets, but I think I'll wait till I can hold a 9000 series in my hands, and do a 'Homer', "ahhhhhhh"

I'm excited to see new possibilities and that RIM isn't just being complacent with their designs but I'm not sure how I feel about the functionality for me if it is only touchscreen. I have fat polish sausage fingers and I could see tempers flaring if it takes me an hour to write an email. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see what happens with the actual device (as if I could choose not wait...)

| | I'm holding out for this one...
My friend bought the Ipod Touch, and I absolutely love the features of it, and was definitely considering buying one, but since I heard about the features and the specs of the 9000 series, I'm going to wait and get that one if it's all it's hyped up to be!
My only real concern is when I'm going to be able to get it, since I'm in Canada, and on a CDMA network. I hope they release it on CDMA 1st! Here's hoping.
