Awesome news!!! But that multiple countries line makes me nervous.
I don't think it should make anybody nervous apart from RIM. I remember some part of the Matrix franchise (starring Keanu Reaves) that was first publicly screened at the same time across the world. Could RIM be doing something like this?

I Hope, but I can't imagine why it would be released in March though if it turns out that way.

Trying to figure out why folks are so frustrated.
    1) It isn't our money on the line.
    2) RIM is doing their best to bring something to market that will "capture" the market.
    3) Up until today, we all were under the expectation of a Q1 release.
After so much posts of doom and gloom by biased tech-bloggers and wall street pundits, we finally get news that proves RIM is releasing this product and folks are so caught up with themselves that they get frustrated?
Be happy we get to see the device launch. Based on so many fools, it wasn't happening at all. We all want the device but none of us are under the pressure and scrutiny that RIM is under.

I just don't get folk. Complain even amidst good news.

Default BlackBerry 10 Launch Event to be Held on January 30th, 2013

Why are people so hung up on release date vs. launch date?!
L-series BB10 will be here very soon. Success will be determined by the halo-device marketing from the big providers: Verizon, AT&T, Vodafone, Rogers, Bell, Deutsche Telecom and so forth.
I would be very interested in the marketing campaigns globally and dollars being spent. Probably in the hundreds of millions. A memorable Superbowl commercial would be nice!

Good thing is that they have at least set a date for this. I just hope they launch faster than they did with OS 7 phones.

That may be what I have to do as I really don't like the renders of the L and N Series of phones.

    1. The "1.0" bugs that come with a new device/OS would have hopefully been sorted out by then.

I'm confident he won't, considering how he's handled things so far. I'm guessing actual availability may be early Feb.

One thing I am biting my nails for is how much BB10 and the hardwares will meet consumer (and fan) expectations. Hopefully they will satisfy enough appetites to call this a true success and comeback! As a fellow Canadian, I'm rooting for a big win.
One key thing to remember before making too many comparisons with the MS/Nokia launch: this is the date RIM actually wants to do this. Remember that the early Oct "unveil" with the dodgy camera demos was cobbled together at the last minute to try to beat the iPhone 5 launch.

    You know this... how?

I mean, sure, it's smart to keep expectations in check, but why would you go out of your way to be pessimistic about the availability date? My assumption: RIM has consulted with carriers and confirmed that with a Jan 30 launch date the phones will be available to most of us no more than two weeks later. I admit, I could definitely be wrong but I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption.

Lucky Duck. My upgrade is in December, my phone is on the fritz and I really can't see my self waiting for next Christmas to get the Aristo. I hope the L-series is very competitive because I will have a new phone by March.

Should be okay because for OS7 they released the Bold 9900/9930, Torch 9810, and Torch 9850/9560 all at the same time around the world. It wasn't available exactly all at the same time because ultimately it was up to the carriers.

But they had a worldwide rollout then too.

One thing I love about RIM is that they set up a plan and do their best to execute that plan. If they fail or make mistakes, they adjust and try to do better. Sure, the PlayBook wasn't a shining example of RIM greatness, but it was also their first time dealing with consumers directly, rather than with carriers, which they are more experienced with. With BB10, I, too, have been awaiting the release, and the delays have been a little frustrating. But I consider that they are trying to stay in business long term, not only from quarter to quarter. And they seem to have a vision to do this, which I think is great. Based on how BB10 will operate, from the limited amount I've seen (Flow, the Hub, predictive typing etc) I think it's a winner. And I really don't care that it's coming after Christmas - my contract isn't up for a while, and I personally don't have dozens of colleagues who will get a new device at no-contract pricing just because it's Christmas. So, RIM said Q1, and they're going to do it. Good on RIM, and I look forward to seeing the final product on Jan 30!

This just says they're launching bb10 not the devices. They could come out in March.
