| | BGR Review of PLaybook 2.0 - Walks away impressed!
I'm pretty amazed that they posted something positive about the playbook.
I know they love apple and report on android, because well, it drives hit but usually they have a negative review of anything Blackberry
"RIM did a great job with the apps as well, providing what is easily among the best email and calendar experiences we’ve seen on a tablet. Apps integrate with each other seamlessly and we’re big fans of the layered UI RIM used in the email app." BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 hands-on

Nice find and post. With all the naysayers out there posting some pretty negative stuff, it is nice to see the positive. It sounds like BGR is as excited as I am about the OS2 update. A few more articles like this will do a great deal to improve the consumer's impressions of PlayBook.

In order to give the appearance objectivity - one must divert from subjectivity once in a while.
Regardless... BGR is still crap.

BGR is still a tool. One swallow doesn't make a summer.
At least its still a serious tech reporting site unlike the drunken Techcrunch folks.
And its still written by Zach Epstien. He's one of the more objective writers at BGR.
Geller would die before he acknowledged any other company besides Apple bringing something innovative.

And look at what I found: You know, it’s sort of like clockwork. Once every six months we proclaim the latest BlackBerry to be the best BlackBerry ever. Well, we hate to disappoint you, but it doesn’t look like we’re stopping that tradition anytime soon. The BlackBerry Bold 9700, for whatever network it’s powered by, is the finest BlackBerry to date. From the gorgeous screen to the perfect keyboard, to the pocketable size and swift processor, the Bold 9700 seems like it can do almost anything you throw at it. With 256MB of RAM, you’ve got a little more room for applications and data, and the device doesn’t ever seem to get bogged down. We have never even gotten a spinning clock (yet). It’s that solid.
The above is Geller writing about the 9700 two years ago, apparently after being resuscitated (You can read it here under "conclusion": BlackBerry Bold 9700 Review: Part 2)
Now what I want to read is the story on how they brought Mr. Geller back from the dead. I'm sure we can all agree that however this was accomplished, it was innovative.

They had a really positive review for the 9700. I think they listed it as the second best smartphone on the market below the 3gs and one spot above the original verizon droid.

Since you are a CB regular, what do you feel personally about the BB remote, Native mail app and unified inbox shown off by RIM?
No analysis regarding RIM's resurgence or ability to attract marketshare. Just your personal opinion on what has been showcased by RIM?
I would be interested to know about your opinions.

I would be interested to know about your opinions. | Although this has nothing to do with your question to Economist but I remember some blog sites and people raving about iOS' ability to save social network url's in the contacts app. Yeah, url's in the contact app was a hot feature... Berry's have been integrating social networks into the contacts app for ages (you can write on someones wall, compose a mention, send a message directly from the contact info and even view hashtag trends in their respective apps) and the PlayBook OS 2 has taken this to a new level but yet very little is being said about it.
The email app in OS 2 looks killer as well and is something that no other platform has but it is all been overlooked and RIM's troubles in the market place seem to be the big news.
Funny thing perception really.

Zach seems to be a little more kind to RIM and their products than Gellar has been, lately.

However we might feel about BGR, the fact remains that many seem to take them seriously, hence the news wire items about their "RIM is lying that LTE is the reason they're stalling on BB10" story (which, frankly, was something of a hit piece).
So, with that in mind, it's cool to see them give credit where it's due. Which blogger on BGR praised the Playbook as being his favorite tablet last summer? I'm too lazy to look it up... | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
