Reading Techradar's hands-on with BB10, I came across this picture. What do you guys think?

Doesn't look like google maps....far less detailed. I know this area very well (north part of central london FYI), and there's loads of tube stations in this area and none is marked on the map....which is a concern in terms of usability. Then again, as long as google make a maps app for BB10, I probably won't care what BB maps is like...

Well, maybe it would show more detail if you zoom in further? That's how google maps is.

Or add transit layers depending on how BB10 Maps works.

I'd like to be able to see where key things such as tubes and stations are marked clearly at this sort of level of zoom, regardless of how much more it can be zoomed in. Also, considering how important the tube is in London, having it as a separate layer would be inconvenient and not very user friendly.

Looks like Google Maps with all additional layers disabled.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that's a native map app; a browser-based one wouldn't have the search bar up at the top.

Don't know what that actually means, don't really care.

I'm afraid your in for a disapointment. RIM has said that when their Maps app is first released it will not have transit directions. That's something that I HOPE they will be adding in future updates...

When did RIM say no transit directions? Must have missed it...although no transit directions doesn't mean rail and tube stations aren't marked. Anyway as I said before, I don't mind if BB maps isn't up to scratch as long as google maps are there...I used google over BB for maps on my 9900 atm.

For those saying it looks like google maps....have you looked at google maps recently? it looks nothing like it. Roads names less detailed, less labelling, different coloured roads...definitely not google maps.

Even if RIM's map stinks it doesn't matter. You'll still be able to sideload the android google maps, which works just fine on the playbook.

Agreed. Will be good for turn by turn navigation but not good for getting around by foot/public transport. Unfortunately for me, I use the latter a lot more!

i am sure they will work on the many layers that people need. This is the first shot just like iOS had. It will take time to evolve into something as big as google maps

I wonder if Google would be open to licensing their transit data. They have been against that in the past, but Eric mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago that they are looking at licensing their map data. (it was durring an interview about Apple going on their own vs using google maps

It would have been better if they'd managed to get MS to keep providing Bing Maps. I like Bing the best for Transit in Vancouver, not sure if it's necessarily better in other parts of Canada, but Bing always gives better routing than Google.

It's not Google's transit data, they use data provided by the various transit services.
