| | BB10 Camera specs?
Has anyone found any leaked information about the possible camera specs in the new BB10 phones? I remember reading somewhere it might be 8mp but there wasn't any information if they improved the camera software or cmos processor.
I'm really hoping it's on par with the iphone camera.

By time it launches it should be ahead of 8mp. 8mp is where the iPhone is now they need to be ahead. I say 10mp, with an even more advanced autofocus(which cannot be omitted this time).

I'm no camera expert but I thought the secret to good pictures lies in the software and cmos processor

I'd rather have quicker autofocus and faster shutter speed than more MP's any day. Throw in better low light performance and you'd have a really good backup camera.
I've got a Galaxy S2 and while I think it has 8MP, it's a crap camera. Why? Too bloody slow autofocus, super slow shutter speed and the images are too dark. The iPhone 4s camera is actually pretty good from what I've seen. Fast autofocus, fast shutter and bright pictures.
People though have a tendency to believe more MP means a better camera which isn't the case. The only benefit to more MP is a larger total image which you can crop. How many people are cropping photos on a camera phone? And who cares if you can crop a dark, high noise image?

dont worry, the writing is on the wall: take the latest iPhone available when BB10 gets released, decrease the camera MP by 1 generation = Blackberry London.
dont believe me? 3G PB will be announced soon, iPad 3 not long after/before. iPad3 will get 2xxxX1xxx resolution and 4G LTE connectivity.

Anything over 5MP is not necessary for the average person. And it really is just a marketing thing. Now, some people need the MP to blow pictures right up for posters or large photos for instance. That's fine. But software, cmos, optics etc are very important and I dare say most important after 5MP.
Its frankly hilarious to hear that BBs "need" a 10MP camera. BBs need a high quality camera like that seen on the nokia n8 and n9. Incredible quality. Beats out iphone I think. Especially the n8. I would personally like to see a 8MP rfc with xenon/led combo, carl zeiss optics, and a real cmos.

I don't care about MP, I want a big sensor (as that has more to do with quality then MP)
Camera's is somewhere where I have not seen RIM imrpove on lately, & I think that's a bad thing as people are more & more using their phones as point & shoot cameras these days.
The Camera was the only thing I liked about the iPhone 4S, & really it's only advancement over the iPhone 4

MP is a huge selling factor and a good way between a discount playbook (5mP) and a high end playbook (10MP with flash), without messing with the platform's homogeneity (resolution, CPU).
but a 10inch playbook should bump to a higher resolution, new 7inch PB with the same new resolution, and London phones use the current PB resolution

But I agree, its not that bad because the current res on the 7 is comparable to the retina display on ipad3.
HOWEVER, im not sure there is space for a new 3G tablet. No carrier will market it as much as a LTE one. Rim seems to be going 3g tablet, apple is going LTE it seems. I hope im wrong....

Anything over 3MP is unnecessary. The resolutions for that is something you'd never come across. So no need to take pictures with that.
But it plays a huge role in marketing. So 5 or 8 is a good number.

Yes MPs count, but only as ONE part of the equation….or maybe 2 if you count marketing. & That’s the problem. People chase the MP because they think it makes things better, when it could be making things worse. I would rather a great CMOS Sensor with a great lens. Look at most DX DSLRs. Most of them have 12 – 16MP. It’s only on the FX cameras where the MP goes up to 36 or so. I can only drool at the thought of a phone with one of Nikon’s EXPEED sensors in it………
